I found it to be a fairly good pale ale with a slightly bitter average length finish. I enjoyed the initial taste, also found the color and scent to be pleasing. Aroma of bready caramel malt, perfumy hops, some black pepper. Tastes sharply hoppy, with careamel malt, slight floral spiciness, and a tad of metallic notes. Medium palate heft. DJC (238), USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 6, 2006 Updated: Jan 8, 2007Med.-light amber color, with a diminishing off-white head. Some lacing. Very pleasant, mild citrus/pine aroma. Initiall flavor is semi-sweet malt and dried citrus rind; unfortunately, the the malts play too large of a role. Finish is relatively quick and clean, but a slight bitterness does remain for a while. If you like your ales to be on the sweet/malty side, then maybe you’d appreciate this beer more than I do. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 9, 2006 Bottle. So so. Kind of malty and relatively hoppy - not very good hop flavor though. Also has some off-flavors. Definitely have had better pale ales. FROTHINGSLOSH (2038), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 8, 2006 This is the first beer that I have tried from this brewer. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a caramel color with a large yellow-tan head. The aroma is very sweet with a moderate grapefruit and nut element. The flavor is very sweet - very sugary. There is a hop presence but it is very mushy. No crisp or distinct hop flavors come through. There is a lingering sugary sweetness. jimhilt (1690), Bow, New Hampshire, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 29, 2006 Pours a three finger white head that fades to a thin layer leaving some lace. Clear amber color. Light carbonation and light-medium bodied. Hoppy nose. Starts sweet, the hops gradually take over leaving a bitter aftertaste. Typical pale. $1.29 for a 12oz bottle from John’s Grocery Iowa City, Ia. locarboy (115), USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Aug 19, 2006 12 oz bottle. poured ratther fizzy for the style. burnt copper color. Uneven head after a few minutes. Aroma was in the ballpark for the style, but had a bit of a medicinal whiff. Sure enough, a medicinal taste followed - a bit phenolic, band-aid taste. Fairly bland for the style. Not very balanced or complex. I’ll Give City a C for trying to step outside of the Heileman heritage in La Crosse. Keep tryin’ guys...you’ll get ther eventually. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Aug 1, 2006 Poured copper with a tan head. Aroma has some malt and hop character - balanced, but mostly non-descript - somewhater perfumy. Starts out sour, astringent and medicinal. Bits of caramel malt in the background of the gunk. Finish has a piney hop taste, but not enough to cover the bad qualities of the taste. Best to avoid. For the price I paid there are MUCH better options in this style.
