2004 Autumn Brew Reveiw: Gets Marks for NOT being a Bad Beer as Was Expected. A Little Thick Down The Throat. Some Hops. Not Bad...Different Anyways.

Autumn Brew Review 2004. Like JK, I was surprised by this. Kind of a sweet and sticky Pale Ale, but still has some good hop flavor. A little twitch of malt. Certainly not great, but a heckuva lot better than expected.

I was surprised by the quality of this beer. Gold. Heavy palate, has a syrup quality. Flavors are sweet with hops.

Nice gold/amber body, white and creamy lasting head. Sweet yet astringent hop cascade aroma. Flavor has a cascade with a soured orange and slightly nasty grapefruit rind middle/finish. Some accompanying sweetness makes it better. Slightly creamy and resiny but too bubbly. Not too bad though.

This beer was made at the site of the world’s largest Six pack. I’ve made the passage through LaCrosse in my college days and Heileman’s Old Style came out of this brewery. Whomever owns that site now has to make fine beer and I’m sure this will be a pleasant surprise. Not bad. Hoppy, malty and a little grapefruity this is a solid Pale Ale. With the exception of Rhinelander I’ve never had a terrible wisconsin beer. Again this is a solid effort. Tastes good, drinkable and although a little thin is a good effort for City Brewery. Look forward to the other beers I’m sampling from this brewery.

In the bottle at the 2004 Crescent Moon Vintage Beer Tasting. Light in color, but not in flavor. Very very good. Crisp and clean, but a very big palate. Is this still the same beer that they now make? Maybe we should be aging the City pale Ale for a decade or so in order to acheive this? I’ll need to get myself a fresh bottle of this soon.

Not a beer that I would ever want to have again. Looks good, smells good, tastes isn’t really that great, they should’ve saved some of the hops from the label for the beer.
