To wit: It had a nice foamy, textured head with lots of clingy lace. The color was a lovely golden hue. Had very fresh and clean aromas mainly of hop and a hint of yeast and some carmel malt. The taste was very nicely balanced. It very definitely a session beer and must be a hallmark in the production of the City Brewery here in La Crosse. I understand there are slightly more bittering units than in the legendary Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. I like this one better and I WANT MORE!!! Hurrah for this Upper Mid-West Pale Ale!!! Had this one yesterday at the Bodega. BeerRunner (144), San Diego, California, USA

Not nearly as hoppy as my favorite stuff from Stone, but still very good. Nice, hoppy bready aroma, smooth, good, clean finish. I like it a lot. DougShoemaker (2856), Toronto, Canada

Hoppy, citrus flavour, good malt background. Chewy, almost crunchy. Bold, big and very good! humulus (338), Salem, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 20, 2003 City's credo must be "Livin' life on the lighter side" because all their beers that I have tried are doing just that. Not that I am complaining. This APA is quite crisp and clean tasting with a nice "ping" of hops that I haven't experienced in other ales. The flavor involves touchs and hints of malt and sweetness, with the delicacy and finesse of a post-pubescent Goldfinch fluttering and flirting in an amber evening's sunset. It makes me smile. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 27, 2006 Poured an effervescnet amber with a fizzy amber head. Aroma of nice grapefruit and pine hops with some sugary sweetness. Taste is strong bitter grapefruit hops up front with a viscous caramel sweetness. Pretty thick body for the style. Feels and tastes like a bigger beer. Overall a nice pale ale and a surprising find. Optigon (562), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 24, 2007 Pours brown with a moderate bubbly head. Aroma of hops, some roasty malt. Moderate mouth feel with a roasted flavor up front, with a solid hop bite in the finish. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 8, 2003 A translucent amber to copper color as it sets in the glass, the head portly in size, spumous in texture, light tan in color and the residual lace a nice sheet to seal off the glass. Malt dominates the nose, somewhat sweet, crisp and fresh, with the start malt, lightly sweet, the top skinny in feel. Finish is stinging in its acidic bite, the hops pleasant in their spicy presence, dry as a desert bone aftertaste, a nice middle of the road Pal Ale, a good Summertime refresher.
