MoritzF (4856), Bochum, Germany Oct 5, 2005 (on tap at Hoppy´s Treff, Holzwickede) The fact, that legendary defence player Dieter “Hoppy” Kurrat of Borussia Dortmund - one of the heroes of the European Cup Championship of 1966 (finally against F.C. Liverpool) - tapped this brew personally for me, doesn´t make it better. Dark brown colour with a reddish shade and a small frothy white layer. Not much aroma except some toasted malts. Medium bitter flavour, toastmalty taste and a (retronasal) skunky bitter and thin finish. The nice swing top bottles are not available anymore as far as I know. One can get it still on tap in a few pubs in and around Dortmund, but better stay away from this bland and boring Alt, except for rating reasons of course. bierkoning (5987), La Tropica, Netherlands May 30, 2004 Dark copper color. Slightly metallic apple and caramel aroma and flavor. Remarkably sweet, yet a vegetable-like chichory bitter aftertaste. A bit disappointing, the beautiful bottle promised more. dortmunder (961), Herdecke, Germany Oct 25, 2003 Red/brown. Quickly diminishing head. Roasty maltiness. Roasty, bitter taste. Watery body. Not so good. Would like to give some bonus points for the bottle, though. LarsHolmer (112), Göteborg, Sweden Oct 6, 2003 What a beautiful Appearence, and what a shame to the rest. Altbiers are one of my favourites, but not this one. omhper (12147), Stockholm, Sweden Aug 19, 2003 Bottled. Nut brown. Very rich head. Sweet and lightly roasty. Offputting vegetable finish. Ohhh. So this was a Binding beer? That explains the lousy quality... Jayb0 (750), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA Jun 13, 2003 My least favorite of the four alts I had in dusseldorf. Looked good with a robust copper color and dense white head (poured with care)but in the mouth it fell apart. Unbalanced, mealy, overly sweet finish.
