Liverpool) - tapped this brew personally for me, doesn´t make it better. Dark brown colour with a reddish shade and a small frothy white layer. Not much aroma except some toasted malts. Medium bitter flavour, toastmalty taste and a (retronasal) skunky bitter and thin finish. The nice swing top bottles are not available anymore as far as I know. One can get it still on tap in a few pubs in and around Dortmund, but better stay away from this bland and boring Alt, except for rating reasons of course. bierkoning (6099), La Tropica, Netherlands
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | May 30, 2004 Dark copper color. Slightly metallic apple and caramel aroma and flavor. Remarkably sweet, yet a vegetable-like chichory bitter aftertaste. A bit disappointing, the beautiful bottle promised more. dortmunder (961), Herdecke, Germany
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Oct 25, 2003 Red/brown. Quickly diminishing head. Roasty maltiness. Roasty, bitter taste. Watery body. Not so good. Would like to give some bonus points for the bottle, though. LarsHolmer (112), Göteborg, Sweden

| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Aug 19, 2003 Bottled. Nut brown. Very rich head. Sweet and lightly roasty. Offputting vegetable finish. Ohhh. So this was a Binding beer? That explains the lousy quality... Jayb0 (752), Cherry Hill, New Jersey, USA

Looked good with a robust copper color and dense white head (poured with care)but in the mouth it fell apart. Unbalanced, mealy, overly sweet finish.
