Sweet tasting malts and leafy hops. Very similar aroma profile to the IPA but is bumped up a few notches. Sweet, caramelly malts, earthy, resiny and leafy hop aroma. A bit of nuttiness, sitting behind the otherwise straightforward malt profile. Body is nicely rounded, soft texture, a bit of light fruit in the flavour that just isn’t there in the nose. Warming brings out a lightly plummy/rummy note that I quite enjoy. Soft bitterness, good balance and a very nice barleywine. Ungstrup (15430), Frederiksberg, Denmark
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 16, 2006 A deep red beer with a lazing orange head. The aroma is sweet and like a good hop soup in which You’ve put oranges and caramel, but also with a note of alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty, with a quite strong alcohol presence, though the body is weak. There’s quite a lot of hops in it, which towards the end turns more and more dusty, but the flavor also contains a honey note. The end is dry, but until that sets in, the mouthfeel is smooth. Comes in a beautiful blue bottle. zathrus13 (1317), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 4, 2006 Pint swinglock bottle from beastiefan2K. Very viscous pour, smallish off-white head forms and fades to a ring and a scattered bit of foam across the top. Somewhat opaque, deep amber with reddish hues in color. Aroma is malty, fairly sweet with a non-offensive distinct alcohol presence, some toffee. Full bodied, warming to the gut. Alcohol is there and a little up front but not too harsh. Decent hop balance in the finish, a bit of citrus/pineapple. Decent. Papsoe (15109), Frederiksberg, Denmark
