Another great representation of style from Climax! Big malty body, perfect flavor and appearance for a doppelbock.

Enjoyed a sample of this one at the brewery in Roselle Park, NJ. Pours to a beautiful, bright, deep chestnut color, with a soapy, white head that fades, and a soft to moderate amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is excellent, with lots of good sweet malty, toasty, and nutty aroma. The palate is rich and full on the tongue, with lots of good sweet malty, nutty, and toasty malt flavor on a smooth and round body. This beer ends with more rich and cloying malt flavor up front, then ends with a touch of grassy hop bitterness, to cut the cloying nature of this beer, and lingers sweet and malty. Well done dopplebock, with lots of great malt flavors, that is so smooth and drinkable. This beer is 8% abv, but hides its strength very well, so be carful with this one, especially from the 1/2 gallon growler. Another great beer, from a very impressive craft brewery.

Appearance: Pours a hazy brown body with a very thin white head. Smell: Light aroma of toasted malts with a hint of nuts. Lighter still in the nose is the pinch of herbaceous hops. Taste: Mild toasted maltiness (like Munich-lite) with a moderate amount of sweetness. Ever-present nuttiness. Very faint sliver of hop flavor on the otherwise sweet finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Seems a bit light all around for a doppelbock, though I still found it to be fairly tasty and enjoyable.

Tap @ Barcade. Poured a clear mahogany color with an off-white head. The aroma was fairly fruity with notes of raisins, grapes, and a hint of chocolate. The flavor was clean and fruity with some mild notes of raisins and a touch of cocoa on the dry finish. Light side of a medium body. Smooth mouth feel with a light carbonation.

Pours brown with a tan head with descent retention. Aroma had nuts, grain, chocolate, nuts, caramel and raisin. Taste was dominated by nuts and caramel with hints of chocolate in there as well. Mouthfeel was a bit too watery for a Doppelbock. Pretty good shot at the style.

Dar brown color with smaller head. Sweet malt aroma with a sweet, yet slightly above average dark malt/D-bockish taste. Not amazing, but tasty and served as a good appetizer.

on tap-pours a tan head with orange/copper color. Aroma is malt, nutty, hops. Taste follows with the dominant taste being the malt. Low carbonation.

Growler thanks to Dickinsonbeer. Clear dark amber color with a small off white head. Aroma was very mild. Toasted malt, hazelnuts, mild hops and some caramel. Flavor of lightly toasted malts, nuts, light yeast and a bit of hops on the finish. A bit thin and watery. Drinkable, but forgettable too.
