Commercial Description:
Created to celebrate Clipper City’s 10th Anniversary – extremely limited and vintage dated – this extravagantly malty barley wine will show well upon release but continue to evolve for years.

Bottle. Pours copper with off white head. Aroma of toffee, caramel, and brown sugar. Taste is slightly sweet with lots of alcohol in the finish. Decent.

Nice deep copper coloured body with strong ruby highlights and a super-thin off-white head. Aroma of strong pit fruits, nice toasted malt, toffee, light hops and a potent alcohol flavour. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong potent alcohol taste with malt and toffee noticeable. Aftertaste short but very strong. Overall - this one needs some age, its a bit rough around the edges...but after time might be better. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 26-December-2005.

Bottle. Pours light brown with off white head. Aroma is sweet with caramel, toffee, and yeast notes. Flavor is more balanced with some hop character to offset the sweetness.

Bottle sample at the Blacklick Wine and Spirits tasting on 1/8/09. Pours a clear light brown with a small off-white head. Sugary aroma with caramel, malt and a bit of yeast. Hop comes out in the flavor with a caramelly malt balance. Interesting brew that smells like a sweeter English-style b-wine, but has the hop balanced flavor of an American.

This is a real solid barleywine from Clipper City. 2008 version. Copper colored pouring a decent sized initial head considering the abv and style. A pleasant aroma of plums, figs, some alcohol fumes and cherries and nice intro to what you’re going to get. There’s a lot of sweet malt and dark fruit in the flavor, some caramel, and a bit of a hop bite in the finish. This beer is obviously very young but it’s a good, easy drinking barleywine right now that still seems lighter than the 10% it is.

2008-12-22. Dark amber-brown body with a modest tan head. Mild aroma is a bit muted, sweet alcoholic caramel. Flavour is relatively restrained, sweet malt caramel swamped by warming alcohol. Smooth average plus body. (3+). Very drinkable, accessible barley wine. Bit restrained, but rather nice. Bottle c/o Tupalev

My first experience at a barley wine. Very fruity kind of scent with a smooth taste to it. Nicely done baltimore

Pours deep amber into a snifter. Off-white head recedes to nothing; leaving no lacing. Spicy caramel aromas. Spritzy caramel syrup upfront turning into a hoppy alcohol burn. Interesting.
