Mr_Stitch (138), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours a nice amber color with a thin off white head that disappears quickly. Aroma is malt, malt, and more malt with a bit of yeast and dark fruit thrown in for a change. Taste is sweet, malty, hint of dates, and doughy. Mouthfeel was light, thin, and not very carbonated. This is only the second barley wine that I have tried and I’m still trying to like the style.
beergod! (44), Houston, Texas, USA Sep 26, 2008 Updated: Sep 28, 2008This barley pours a nice toasted sunburst in color. Smells of light brown sugar, caramel, and light honey. Drinks a little light in body for a barley, but flavor is ok. All in all this beer lacks a bit of body. Not my favorite, but not the worst i’ve had. Imaena (259), Portland, Maine, USA Sep 19, 2008 12 oz bottle with Paul watching the Eagles. Pour is dark brown with a wisp of a head. Malt sweetness, aroma hops, carmel, dark fruits, and molasses. Very good at the price point. Miver (436), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 11, 2008 2006 bottle. Poured a dark brown/ copper in color with a small tan head that quickly diminished. Aroma of caramel, fruit sweetness, and mild hops. Tastes of mellow hops, caramel sweetness, light fruit, nuts, toffee and brown sugar. Alcohol hidden very well in this. jjpm74 (3155), Stratford, CT 06614, Connecticut, USA Sep 11, 2008 Pours copper/amber with a thin sparse white head. Smells of fruit, some earthy hints, some citrus. Tastes bitter and dusty with some nice earthy qualities. This was a pleasant surprise. mwelsh13 (193), Maryland, USA Aug 27, 2008 2005 bottle poured a medium brown-orange color. Wispy light creme colored head. Sweet caramel, toffee and some coffee aromas. Nice hop bitterness that quickly fades to a sweet malt goodness. A little alcohol at the swallow. Lingering molasses flavor at the end. I am so glad I opened that case of beer that has been in my basement for the last 3 YEARS!
