Commercial Description:
Big DIPA – Double IPA
Hops: Centennial, Amarillo
Malts: American 2-Row, Crystal, Biscuit
ABV: 10.6%
IBU: 75.5%

Big DIPA – Double IPA, is the first in the Heavy Seas Special Edition Series due to be released in mid June. Hopped 3 times in the brewing process, Big DIPA has an earthy hop aroma. In keeping with the Heavy Seas philosophy we’ve made a big beer with a surprising balance. The best part is that you’ll hardly notice it’s 10.6% ABV (est). The label artwork was created by Kurt Krol, one of our brewers who also helped to develop the recipe.

THOUGHTS: A little more like a barley wine than a DIPA. I like my DIPAs sweet, but this was ridiculous. The hops really didn’t show up until the last possible moment as I swallowed. And then they disappeared. Not a bad beer, just a really awful DIPA. Rather cloying. Hid alcohol incredibly well. Negative point for being a poor example of the style. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured slightly hazy, dark orangey amber with a small to average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good to fair lacing. The aroma was light to moderate caramel malt; moderate resinous and orangey hops; maple syrup and slight rubbery notes. The initial flavor was very sweet, slightly bitter and a little acidic; while the finish was extremely sweet and bitter with a surprisingly short duration. There was caramel, maple syrup, brown sugar, orangey hops, oranges, honey, then resinous hops and slight rubbery notes. The medium body was a bit syrupy with fizzy carbonation and a lightly alcoholic and slightly metallic finish.

Pine forest nose puts a smile on your face and the quaffing adds to your pleasure. This bomber series from Clipper City is quite good. Starts with a mixed sweet malt showing caramel, maple syrup. Then on comes the citrus and pine hoppy points and ends with a very pleasant bitternes. Keep up the good work!

Bomber from Whole Foods (Tampa, FL). Pours a generally clear dark amber copper color with one finger white foamy head that settles slowly. Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of citrus, pine, grapefruit, honey, light floral esters, fresh hops. Flavor is sweet and floral, syrupy with notes of caramel, toffee, citrus, grapefruit, pine, floral hop bite. Generally medium body with a pleasing hoppy finish.

it pours out pale golden yellow with a nice thick lumpy, frothy beige white head. the body is partially cloudy and has the color of light burgundy, amber, light brown. the aromas are straight up down to earth with a huge hop presence that commands respect. i also get some floral notes with pine sol, and pine trees. the flavors are sweet at first with a very complex bitter aftertaste. the mouth feel feels like silk, the carbonation is right on par, and i would probably say it is medium bodied. i taste sugar, clove, chives, onions, and toffee. very complex and nicely balanced and the alcohol content is superbly hidden very well. very enjoyable sutle aftertaste leaving me wanting more and finishes dry and clean. awsome brew, worth the money, will definatley seek this beer again for sure.

Bomber. Pours hazy amber with a 2 finger thick beige head that leaves great lacing. The nose is toffee, floral hops and caramel. The taste is sweet citrus, caramel malt, brown sugar and some light tart grapefruit in the finish. Medium bodied. Decent. I think it’s a bit past its prime hops wise.

Clear copper pour with a long-lasting off-white head. Huge piney hop aroma. Pine/floral hop flavor. Very thick and resinous. A rater below said it’s like a highly hopped barleywine. That is dead on. A thick, malty, resinous hop bomb.

tap that pours cloudy and clears. Amber in color, with almost no head. Very sharp aroma. Fruity flavor, almost like juicyfruit gum.
