Commercial Description:
Big DIPA – Double IPA
Hops: Centennial, Amarillo
Malts: American 2-Row, Crystal, Biscuit
ABV: 10.6%
IBU: 75.5%

Big DIPA – Double IPA, is the first in the Heavy Seas Special Edition Series due to be released in mid June. Hopped 3 times in the brewing process, Big DIPA has an earthy hop aroma. In keeping with the Heavy Seas philosophy we’ve made a big beer with a surprising balance. The best part is that you’ll hardly notice it’s 10.6% ABV (est). The label artwork was created by Kurt Krol, one of our brewers who also helped to develop the recipe.

20090901 Bomber from Wine World in Abingdon, MD. Hazed orange bronze color with very little head, mostly some large suds. Aroma is citrus, pine, and some alcohol. First sip was brutal with intense alcohol burn coming on mid palate and lingering retronasally. But after a couple more sips, the booze seems to numb the senses a bit and it’s not so bad. not so good either. Quite thin and without much malt backbone. Light sweet malt character, like crackers with marmalade, and only moderate bitterness. Some apricot and resinous pine notes late. Not something I’d buy again.

I thought this was decent but not impressive. Little to fruity for my taste in an IPA.....love the label though!

Bomber. Pours cloudy orange gold, off white head. Aroma is malt, dough, citrus, alcohol. Flavor is alcohol, tangerine, dough, honey, hops bitterness. Not as syrupy as some Imperial IPAs, but there is definitely a strong alcohol element here.

22oz bottle. Pours a mostly clear light copper color with a 2 finger thick beige head, light lacing. Nose starts with some pine cone, lost of sweet caramel malts as it warms. Flavor held lots of sweet and toasted malt. A decent double, glad I got to try it.
