Bottle from Jasonmech77. Thanks dude. Pours a dark, layered brown with no head. Nose is very cloves, banana, wheat, brown sugar...this smells very, very similar to the aventinus, though the aventinus is more carbonated and maybe the yeast is slightly different. I dont really know. This smells much better than when I smelled it about two months ago when it first came out. Maybe it just about a different environment, or maybe the 2 months have mellowed it out a little, but we havent tasted anything yet. Flavor doesnt seem to meld well together and alcohol stands out a little too much. Slightly bitter, wheaty and alcoholic finish.

A truly delicious brew in the weizen bock style. Fairly light going down for the octane, and it packs a mighty punch.

Bottle; poured a nice amber color with small to medium head. Aroma of banana, wheat, caramel, clove and fruit. Alcohol could have been more hidden; some alcohol warming, but not seriously detracting. Flavor was similar to the aroma. Some stickiness on the palate. Very good.

Deep amber copper brown, short head, some lacing. Aroma is sweet brown sugar raisin alcohol with banana. Medium body, very smooth, a little tacky towards the end. Great flavor from bottle and on tap: caramel, sweet dark fruits, clove, banana; some nice spice towards the end. Feels a little strong towards the end of a big glass, I’ll stick with a smaller serving on this one!

Bottle. Coppery pour. Fizzy tan head. Nose is citrus (mainly tart lemon), clove, banana, caramel, sweet malts, bread and soft smokiness. taste is sweet and malty with lots of caramel, chocolate covered banana, spices (clove), soft smoke and wheat with yeast notes. Body is medium to medium-full. Soft alcohol warmth. Mild carbonation. Goes down very slick. Stickiness abound. Finishes with more sweet malts, caramel, ripe fruits, alcohol, wheat, soft yeast and spice. Very nice!

9/15/2007: Heavy Seas "Hang Ten" Weizen Dopplebock is hazy with a deep amber color and some sediment (hence its unfiltered nature) churning in it. The small ivory-colored head fades and leaves a thin, tight veil. This sucker looks a bit thicker in body since the carbonation bubbles seem to move slowly upwards through the beer. The deep, rich caramel-covered banana aroma also has some delicate clove-like spice and wheat maltiness. The first sip of this beer is slightly shocking, but it in a really nice way. The aroma should have tipped me off as it was whisperng "wheatwine" to me, but I admit that I kind of dismissed that possibility and wasn’t quite prepared for the flavor. It is quite strong, but very well-balanced with sweet, rich, caramel malt and ripe banana with an accompanying clove spiciness toward the smooth finish. This beer is definitely a mouthful because of its big flavor and not quite full body. It is also pleasingly thick (not overly so or sticky) on the palate. Clipper City did a wonderful job with this beer. It is two great beers (Hefe and Bock) in one! Wow, I need to remember to get more of this next year... Get some of this while it’s still available!

12 fl. oz. bottle (10% alc/vol.) from River’s Bend in Maineville, Ohio ($2.25+tax). For brewery-fresh taste, purchase before month notched: FEB 08. Rating #127 for this beer...

Pours clear orange / brown with a nice tan head. The aroma has thick wheat malt, RICH banana and underlying spice. Medium / thick rich body with some thinness on the finish and fairly sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with thick rich wheat malt, dried bananas, brown sugar, lots of cinnamon and peppery spice. The finish is a bit sharper with some ABV bite, but seems nowhere near 10%. A good beer.

A gift from beastiefan2k. Deep dark brown copper beer. Head hangs around forever. Big spicy/clovey aroma with dark toasty plummy malts. Seems overly phenolic with some definite band-aid/plasticy notes. Full-bodied and chewy with a bit of licorice and some smoke as well. Sticky and plummy. Clove and spice with little in the way of banana or fruit. Warming really intensifies the solvent notes. There are some good qualities in this brew, but there are too many flaws to really recommend it.
