dmtroyer (378), Harrisonburg, Virginia, USA Sep 3, 2008 12oz. Interesting, pours a murky brown with loads of carbonation up the sides and not much of a head to speak of. Aroma is a bit nutty, with some strawberry. Body is syrupy sweet with a cough syrup quality that I just can’t find myself enjoying. Palate is crazy carbonated with a bitter finish. I do not find this very true to the style and it strikes me more belgian in style than german bock.
Beershine (1515), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Nov 28, 2008 Average-looking especially for the style. Clear, mahogany, mediocre head. Aroma is pleasant and does not suggest its being 10%. Has smoke, liquid bread and is quite nice. Silky smooth mouthfeel with low carbonation but a bit slick feeling. Innocuous, strong, not overwhelmingly flavorful but nice sweet sipping beer. gpekar (149), Maryland, USA Nov 21, 2008 Poured a dark bronzish/brown color with orange highlights. The light tan head dropped to about 1/4 inch and eventually just a film. The film still left a bit of lacing. There was a nice caramel sweet aroma with a hint of hoppiness. The texture was creamy and a sweet caramel flavor. There was a slight warm sensation from the 10% alcohol on the finish, but in general the alcohol was hidden pretty well. Enjoyed this beer a lot! Oakes (7032), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Nov 19, 2008 Reddish-amber. Light head. Some burnt phenols, dark cherry and light chocolate on the nose. Chewy, with some bubblegum and burnt dark fruits but the package lacks cohesion. Plasticy phenols detract from everything. Sweet, cloying finish. LilBeerDoctor (733), East Setauket, New York, USA Nov 18, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber with a small fading white head. Aroma of clove, banana, and vegetables. Flavor is very vegetal with cauliflower. Oddly sweet with also a stale wheat flavor and soda. Ick. The flavors were not meshing for me in this one. A pretty bad, and strange, beer. changeup45 (608), Orlando, Florida, USA Nov 18, 2008 Pretty nice beer here. High in alcohol but also refreshing and dangerously drinkable. Deep amber-brown color with just a very thin, patchy head. The aroma is quite nice, wheaty malt, banana, vanilla with a spicy-mild alcoholic scent. Sharp and tangy flavors, bananas, cloves, dark fruits, with a spicy finish. This goes down very easily but don’t let that fool you, the 10% abv is not a misprint.
