Caramel malts, figs, & candied sugar. Decent beer , but overall a very one dimensional beer. Braudog (3774), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | May 4, 2008 Bottle. Bright red with a soda-like fizz. This also drinks like a soda, bright and active on the tongue. Sweet with brewing sugar, puckering like a hard candy, and bit of woodsy body. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 2, 2008 Consumed from the Goblet of Mixed Expectations. Smells like pickled olives and acetone. Murky medium brown beer with a big fizzy head. Definitely has that dubbel horehound-woody-musty thing going on. The flavor was much better than the aroma - candied, grape-y, herbal, warming. Medium body, spritzy mouthfeel. Not bad. RCL (1491), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 2, 2008 Rather boozy aroma followed through, to a lesser extent, in the flavor. Rather underwhelming. PorterPounder (3148), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 1, 2008 Tallahassee, Fl. - Market Square Liquors - 12 oz bottle. Dark copper pour, long lasting, slightly off-white head. Sweet aroma, with hints of molasses, wee bit of alcohol, and overripe fruit. Flavor mimics the aroma with some candied sugar notes, mushy bananas, some boozy notes and some kids cereal. More bock-like than Belgian. Sticky mouthfeel, but slightly artificial feeling. Passable. obguthr (1063), Poquoson, Virginia, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/20 | Apr 26, 2008 The smell is beany DMS with traces of apricot. Clear light bronze with a medium head. Phenolic candied marshamallow flavor. Finishes with a completely different character of slightly musty oak. Medium body, cloying, and off putting. BeerVirgin72 (814), Pataskala, Ohio, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 26, 2008 Had on tap at Brews in Granville. Beautiful pour. Very dark brown with red tints. Aroma was yeast and fruits. Taste was swee raisins, figs, apples, malts and caramel. I am pretty forgiving with beglians. I just like them all. And this one was very enjoyable. Really becoming a fan of the dark belgian. durhambeer (1225), Durham, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 23, 2008 Not bad, but not very complex. Definite malt presence and quite fruity, especially for a dubbel. Was eating olives beforehand, which I think affected my palate, but I tasted scuppernong grapes strongly, as well as figs, raisins, and applies. Not much spice. A little bizarre, but not bad... definitely not what I was expecting, though.
