| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 10, 2008 I love the color, but the aroma is nothing special. Some fruity ester qualities, and you can smell the alcohol. Taste is also neither good nor bad. For an Abbey Ale it just isnt complex enough for me. The mouthfeel seems to stack up though. I get the nice alcohol warmth, and it coats the tongue in a pleasing way. I probably won’t buy it again, but I am glad I had it. I’ll see how it ages, I suppose. mwelsh13 (483), Maryland, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 10, 2008 Pint draft at Hard Times. Little to no aroma. Some malt and sweetness detected. Nice deep brown, mahogany color. Thin tasting with little that I would describe as a dubbel. Was hoping for more. Will stick with the Loose Cannon. nuplastikk (1252), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 8, 2008 12oz bottle. Burgundy cognac color. Deep rich malt profile with a little tang of Belgian yeast. Smooth and creamy. Mellow fruity tones. Heavy in alcohol and reminiscent of an old school Belgian Abbey ale. Sweet finish, really gets nicer as it breathes. JasonG (700), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 8, 2008 12 oz bottle - Pours crystal clear dark brown color with ruby highlights, tiny almost non-existant off white head. Aroma with a fair amount of chewy kilned malts, medium intensity toasted caramel, touch of toasted oak and cherry, and just the faintest whiff of styrofoam off note, with a touch of background diacetyl. Flavor is full of chewy malts and loads of caramel, bit of vanilla and oak, hint of cherry and figs. Fairly sweet overall, palate is a bit thick for the style. Overall a pretty decent dubbel. A few off fermentation notes in the aroma that drags the score down a bit. Seems like they needed a little better temperature control during primary. It needs to be a little drier to be approiate for the style. It is also way undercarbonated for the style. I think the beer would seem a bit drier and the palate would be a bit lighter if it was carbonated higher. thornecb (1812), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 7, 2008 12 ounce bottle in Westmalle glass. Reddish amber with thin ring head. Banana brown sugar and wood varnish aroma. Brown sugar caramel cherries and alcohol flavor with very mild tabacco bitterness and overtly "Belgian-Style" yeast. Medium body and carbo. Not altogether pleasing. vadavid (131), Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA
