Commercial Description:
Just released our newest seasonal – “Holy Sheet”. From the centuries-old tradition of Belgian Abbey monks comes our Uber Abbey Ale (9%). Aromatic and very full bodied, the beer will pour a deep burgundy in color and feature a rich, robust depth of malt character. Grab a line – Holy Sheet! – or you might be swept overboard.

Holy sheet is right! This is dreadful! Aroma was almost nil. Could pick up roasted malt faintly. Pour was terrible. A clear bright amber/brown with no sediment and no head. Taste was very wine like in the front with a nasty brown sugar aftertaste. As it warms stale dark fruits seem to peek in but you have to be looking for them. Calling this an Abbey Dubbel is a stretch. Blah.

Bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Pours dark red (looks like cranberry juice) with a small head. No lacing. Aroma of plum, nuts and toffee. Flavor is a lot more sour than expected. Cherry seems to be the dominant flavor. Smooth finish.

(Bottle) Pours a lightly hazy burgundy body with a small beige head. Aroma of toasted malt, nuts, sulfur, and light florals. Flavor of plum, raisins, apple, nuts, caramel, and toasted malt.

June 2007 - Pours a dark amberish brown, so clear I could see fingerprints on the other side of the class, modest head, no lacing. Strong aroma of candied sugar and brown sugar with a flavor following suit, with lots of sweet malts, candied and brown sugar with a good bit of cherry fruitiness. Sweet, but not sickly, lots of alcohol flavor, but not detrimental. Rich flavor, well carbonated. Another good one from the Heavy Seas series.

Best before August 07. So 13 month-ish old? A very attractive beige head sits atop a nice, clear, well carbonated burgundy body. The smell is very sweet, with chocolate, caramel, cherry and date notes, with a tad hint of copper/oxidation. Incredibly different taste than smell. Super spicy with strong pepper and clove overtones. Some herbal and floral hints. Alcoholic heat still present, with an unsettling sewage flavor in the finish, and a bit of a chalky feel. I remember this brew being pretty decent fresh, but I don’t think age has helped this one out.

Pours dark copper with a half-finger head. A lot of alcohol in the aroma, with some dark fruit, cocoa, and heavy phenols. The alcohol, thankfully, is not as dominant in the flavor, which is rather fruity and herbal. Touch of cranberry before the dry, alcoholic finish.

Poured a dark copper unfiltered color, with very little head. Nice rich malty flavor with a bit of a sweet aftertaste. Could hardly tell this was a 9% beer. Really enjoyed this one.

Bottle: Poured a nice light brown color with absolutely zero head. Alcohol predominant in the aroma. Taste is average with the alcohol hidden behind a smokey taste.
