otakuden (518), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Aug 4, 2009 Brewed with different hops not once, or twice, but thrice during different stages of brewing, Loose Cannon manages to pull off a magnificently hopped IPA that is balanced and extremely drinkable.
Crystal clear orange waters fill my glass while a supple head of orange-tinged foam fades into calmer seas. A thin ringlet marks her territory while a few vigorous swirls produce a splashing of lace while releasing a buoyant aroma of hop delights. Lemon, pine needles, and sweet mowed grass permeate the air while grapefruit and oranges are squeezed for all their bounty. A touch of honey whispers while more pine needles are crushed, releasing their sticky sap. One final zap of lemon zest and grapefruit bring it to a flourish right before I succumb to her siren’s call. Almost immediately my mouth is lightly covered in a mixture of honey, pine sap, and sweet cut grass while a clear and dry presence of grass, grapefruit, and lemon zest along with their waxy skin settles further back in my mouth. Not to be outdone, a delicate undercurrent of sweet, crunchy honeycomb melts atop equally juicy oranges, melon, and mango for a tasty tropical delight. Each quaff is clean, crisp and highly refreshing with an excellent balance of dry bitterness with piney earth resting underneath sweeter oranges and tropical fruits. It is time to put down the pen and simply enjoy the rest of my Loose Cannon as I dig my toes into the warms sands.
I am always amazed at the versatility and variety of hops and how their potential is imagined and then realized by various brewers. It is easy to see why, upon discovery, hops quickly spread amongst brewing nations as the preservative and flavoring ingredient of choice. Flavor is beautiful, and Loose Cannon has it in wonderfully balanced spades. Leighton (234), New York, New York, USA Jul 31, 2009 In a word, hoptastic. This was the last beer I had tonight at Sunswick and I can certainly say that I ended on a high note. Nice golden body with a crisp white head. Hoppy flavor with notes of caramel and pine. The menagerie of hops put into this beer is evident in its complexity. A great brew for the hop-heads out there. seanroto (8), Maryland, USA does not count Jul 25, 2009 golden pour, cirus/fruit hops , you really need to like hops for this one. nice brew mattvervack (20), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jul 25, 2009 So last week I had the Avery dryhopped ale and rated it very low, this week they had Loose Cannon at the same bar and it was incredibly similar to the Avery. Except better. The tase was not as similar to fruit juice, and I actually had another. Well, my friend didnt want his so I drank it. Too cloudy, that is unnecessary. And too hoppy, also unnecessary. I love hops but I also love beer. Make it taste like beer. bbbrew (171), Washington DC, USA Jul 23, 2009 great beer. very enjoyable ipa good malt character vice just hops. citrus hop aroma.
NomDeBeer (398), Maryland, USA Jul 22, 2009 Good IPA with a solid malt backbone. Citrus hops and caramel malt. Moderate carbonation. zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA Jul 18, 2009 Taste 7/9 bottle. Looks: Gold body with a thin head. Aroma: Muted malt sugars and some spicy hops. Taste: A rather malty IPA. Not very hop heavy compared to the recipe. An ok brew, nothing to brag about. fromred2green (141), , Ohio, USA Jul 17, 2009 Bottle. Pours a cloudy golden color with a small white head. Aroma is mostly hops and citrus. Flavor is mostly grapefruit in my opinion, with some hops and malt in the mix toward the end. Not a particularly bitter IPA, nor does it have much of an aftertaste. In my opinion, this beer offers something unique to the style.
