nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 19, 2007 Updated: Oct 20, 2008Bottle from sampler 6 pack, best by July 07. Clear, burnt orange, with an enduro three-quarter inch head of meringue that leaves a crunchy frosting all over the glass. Aroma is nice grapefruit with honey, caramel and a dash of pepper and oak. Taste is similar, but big body of malt sweetness holds up well against the powerful (but nice) flavor of the hops. Palate is just a touch to the light side of medium, and smoooooth. Aftertaste is a demonstration of more (yet a different) balance of malt and tongue tingling hops. Top-notch American IPA could also be a session beer for all seasons. Update: This is a damn good hop blend! Love the light carbonation and complex aromas and flavors that are slightly different on every sip. Upped initial tentative and inexperienced rating from a 4.3 to a 4.7 based on comparisons to many inferior AIPAs over the last year or so. onehotsexychic (101), Albany, New York, USA Apr 18, 2007 THEY PULLED THE TRIGGER ON THE HOPS!! Too much for me!! ((It was on tap and called ’Heavy Storm’ on my Mahar’s sheet.. I’m pretty sure it’s the same one....)) Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Apr 17, 2007 12oz. Bottle thanks to eaglefan538. Good grapefruit aroma stood out in this one. Copper body with off white head. Flavor was a good dose of citrus hop and cool and crisp on the palate. Enjoyable brew. rikkard (8), USA does not count Apr 17, 2007 Poured into a pint glass. Nice medium amber color. Aroma of grapefruit, pine, slight malt.
Nice balance of hops, spice, and malt. Not as over the top as they claim on the bottle but overall very drinkable. BigBen2120 (688), Derry, New Hampshire, USA Apr 17, 2007 12oz brown bottle purchased as part of a multi-pack at Florian’s. Translucent amber-red body with a quarter inch of off-white head that dissipates rather quickly. Smells like orange, pith, and pine. Tastes like orange and caramel malt with hints of herbal spicey character. On the lighter side of medium-bodied. Fairly drinkable. Not the best IPA I’ve had, but a solid beer. MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA Apr 15, 2007 12 oz bottle: poured cloudy orange with a small quickly dissipating white head. Citrusy, grapefruit hop aroma. Nice. Flavor is pretty much all juicy citrusy hops. Slightly dry at first but then a bit sweeter on subsequent sips. Quite a nice IPA and very drinkable. MIBRomeo (1962), Wisconsin, USA Apr 13, 2007 cloudy off golden almost a light orange pour w/ a nice white head and some decent lacing. Full floral hop nose lots of grapefruit a touch of strawberyy soem cereals, quite nice. Nice full coated palate lightly carbonated. Flavor is full of cereal and some light grapefruits touches of pine and hints of strawberry. Quite nice and easy to drink. Good stuff. obxdude10 (1546), Pottstown, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 9, 2007 Excellent beer to have as #1300, great IPA, very enjoyable, deep copper color with a nice & soft off-white head, very floral nose with lots of hops & spices, full-bodied, smooth & dangerously drinkable, lots of hops in the flavors but balanced very nicely with a strong malty backbone, subtle notes of peach & grapefruit, lots of dry citrusy notes in the finish, a little bit of alcohol in the aftertaste as well, can’t wait to enjoy another one, and hopefully another 1300!
