20081227 12oz bottle, Spirits RB. Light amber color with tall white head that lasts and laces. Aroma is mostly hoppy with citrus blossom perfume, mild alcohol, light spruce/resin, light cat pee. Light bodied but sticky with a bitter hops smack. Biscuit and lightly grainy malts up front give way to mostly resin and catty hops on the finish. Not quite dry or astringent. Decent, quaffable IPA.

Clear deep brassy gold with minimal carbonation and a fading, sudsy white head. Pungent aroma of wet, musty hay, canned peaches, and a note of sweet malt. Flavor has a sweet, tropical fruit hop character that blends with the residual malt sugars. Also a note of musty, wet cardboard early plus some pine. Juicy palate. The bottom line is that there’s not a great bouquet here; it’s not exactly weak but not especially appealing or interesting and those qualities are essential requirements for a good DIPA. Thanks TannerTavernboy Eric for the 359th time.

Bottle. Massively hoppy nose, predominately grapefruit but notes of citrus, caramel, and light pine/resin. Deep golden body with a thick, creamy beige head. Enormously hoppy taste, huge! 7.5% is hidden as well as the Small Craft I had earlier in the day - shockingly well. Full, almost syrupy body. Very dry and bitter, medium yeastiness ideal for swishing. Grapefruit and citrus taste, very spicy and boldly floral. A complex Big Beer that stands out from the crowd.

Slightly hazy, bright copper body, thin off-white head. Rindy citrus and pine hops aroma backed by toast and alcohol. The body is a sweet bouquet of grapefruit, pine, and perfumey hops in a matrix of light, sweet breads. Grassy finish, bitter but not palate-devouring, with touches of clover honey lingering on the palate. Nice, soft body. Well-done. Thanks xproudfoot!

(draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Amber color with a big and thick tan head. Aroma is very floral, spicy, and hoppy. Nice and dry as well. Flavor is very floral and spicy as well with some bread and a slight sweetness. Very hoppy with a bitter and dry finish.

Golden color beer with a thin off-white head and a huge, sharp nose of fresh pine needles, grapefruit and oregano. This beer is all about the hops. Intense grapefruit, pine needle and orange rind hoppiness. Very hoppy beer. Toffee malt sweetness tries to underpin the hops, but just can’t quite do it. Body seems a little thinner than it could be. This is a hop head beer, and enjoyable if you are in the mood for the hops.
