Not as big in aroma as I had expected, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in quality. Lots of tropical fruit--huge on pineapple and a little mango in there as well. After warming a bit some citrus and light honey show up too. Very subdued bitterness in the taste, decent sweetness with a solid malt backbone and some citrus. Not as good as the aroma, but not bad. Decent mouthfeel, quite smooth, and has an average length finish. Very nice, especially the aroma...then again I am a sucker for the huge tropical fruit aromas. Pours a clear golden-copper color with a moderate off-white head that faded to a soapy head and left nice lacing. Nice aroma of spicy hops, with some green and citrus coming out of the aroma. Flavor follows the aroma quite closely, it opens with some semi-sweet citrus is a lot of floral, spicy undertones and then a decent bittering hop hit. Not too bitter, and it doesn’t linger too long on the palate. Pretty nice beer, I like the spice/citrus balance, but it could be a bit more bitter. Thanks Beans. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 20, 2007 Wow, a beautiful hop aroma that has everything I look for in a hop aroma. Fruity hops along with some bitter hops that are very potent. The hops don’t seem that they were cheap hops. They are very floral and nice. I just think this hop smell is great. The beer is a nice orange color that looks pleasing to the eye, but nothing special. The beer is a bit thin to me, not as creamy as their other beers. I do like the fact that the beer is less malty than their other beers. I get a citrus hop flavor with the beer. The beer overall has a nice flavor hop, but the bittering hop is just right. It doesn’t overload the beer with a bitter taste, it allows each of the hops to shine. You can taste some of the differnt hops in the beer which is great. Again, the beer is not as thick as I would like, but the flavor is just excellent. Great brew. Cybercat (817), Georgia, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Pours a dark orange-amber with a thick, fine-bubbled head. Aroma is very hoppy, almost piny, promising an exceptionally hoppy beer. Flavor delivers what the aroma promises - exceptionally hoppy, with an undertone like the scent of a pine tree. Texture is smooth and pleasant, and aftertaste has just a little hop bitterness in it. Recommended to all hop lovers. Birdiebeagle (812), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 27, 2006 Bottle Pours a hazy yellow with a good white head, which is fairly lasting and produces good lacing. Has a strong hoppy aroma of spruce and pine. Smells like a dense forrest. Has good carbination and mouthfeel. Has a muted bitter taste, much lighter than the aroma would lead you to believe. Has a nice finish with a decent aftertaste. This is a fairly decent beer. Heathen (810), Riverside, New Jersey, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 20, 2007 THOUGHTS: By far the best Heavy Seas beer I’ve tried. Also one of the better IPAs I’ve had. I usually go fot the double IPAs., but this was way more balanced than most plain IPAs I’ve tried and packed wit a lot more flavor.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, light copper with a small white head that mostly diminished. The aroma was moderate caramel malt, heavy flower and orange hops and a little alcohol. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and bitter, while the finish was moderately sweet and moderately to heavily bitter with a long duration. Most of the flavor was pine and citrus hops and became more balanced with the malt as the beer warmed. The medium to light body was dry and lightly fizzy with a metallic finish. beachbum25 (802), Powellville, Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 9, 2006 Updated: Aug 4, 200712 oz Bottle-pours a clear amber color w/almost no head. This is not usually my favorite style & I only got it to say I had tried all the Heavy Seas beers, but I’m glad I did. Has a nice mild hop flavor, pleasent, not overpowering. Crisp, clean, spicy, citrus flavor. Long finish, somewhat metalic. Surprised this is rated so high, figured it wouldn’t be hoppy enough for the typical IPA drinker. Seems more like a Pale or Amber Ale to me.
Rerate- Have had this on tap several times since initial rating & it is much hoppier/fresher on tap. Really a little too hoppy for me on tap. Bottle I had must have been a little older (must not have had a date code as I didn’t note it in the rating); may have "mellowed out" some. Hop head’s will like it though. Didn’t change my rating score, just added this odservation after a visit to the brewery last weekend. changeup45 (800), Orlando, Florida, USA

Floral, citrus hoppy aroma that is not crazy powerful but you know it’s there. Hops dominate the flavor and while they are slightly bitter, they are more citrusy sweet with a touch of honey thrown in there. A very good beer that isn’t far from being a great one.
