Apr 9, 2008 Updated: Sep 12, 2008Pours a dirty orange color with slight carbonation and a moderate sized head that does taper away somewhat quickly. Floral, citrus hoppy aroma that is not crazy powerful but you know it’s there. Hops dominate the flavor and while they are slightly bitter, they are more citrusy sweet with a touch of honey thrown in there. A very good beer that isn’t far from being a great one.

Dec 9, 2006 Updated: Aug 4, 200712 oz Bottle-pours a clear amber color w/almost no head. This is not usually my favorite style & I only got it to say I had tried all the Heavy Seas beers, but I’m glad I did. Has a nice mild hop flavor, pleasent, not overpowering. Crisp, clean, spicy, citrus flavor. Long finish, somewhat metalic. Surprised this is rated so high, figured it wouldn’t be hoppy enough for the typical IPA drinker. Seems more like a Pale or Amber Ale to me.
Rerate- Have had this on tap several times since initial rating & it is much hoppier/fresher on tap. Really a little too hoppy for me on tap. Bottle I had must have been a little older (must not have had a date code as I didn’t note it in the rating); may have "mellowed out" some. Hop head’s will like it though. Didn’t change my rating score, just added this odservation after a visit to the brewery last weekend.

Aug 20, 2008 Pours a clear amber, slightly small head. Nice citrus pine aroma, sweet caramel malt. A bit of fruit at the end also. Nice balanced flavor.

Jun 14, 2008 light tan with strong white head. nice malt aspect with god hop balance of bittering and flavor. a flavorful but not too overwelming version .. nice

Mar 16, 2008 This was a great brew. I think it was the best of Clipper City brews. Hoppy, but it had a nice fruity aroma. The various hops really mix together well. Still had a little bit a sweet element. Wonderful brew.

Aug 4, 2006 I was wrong about uber pils; this clipper packs the most flavorful punch in the variety pack with its citrusy orange-flavored hops, pine and resin tones which slide right over my tongue, and bitter grapefuity flavors. To me this isn’t a cannon to my palatte as I find the hoppy bitterness to be well balanced by the other elements present. The finish, for example, is dry enough to soak this up but watery enough to keep the bitterness to a good level. The alcohol is well hidden. The only downpoint is that it seems a bit too much on the grassy piney side to me.

Oct 9, 2007 Nice brew. You can tell it’s triple hopped. The aroma of citrus right at opening. Taste is brisk with a citrus bitter finish.

Dec 4, 2005 Sampled at the Pizza Port 9th Strong Ale Festival, at the "ratebeer" table, thanks to whomever brought this. Hops were nicely under control here, nice fruity malt character is balanced by floral hops. I hardly ever pass up a DUIPA, this was a very good one.
