Many IPAs have too bitter a finish for my taste- this one is very balanced. An outstanding beer I will buy again. DeadGuyFrank (347), http://westchesterbeer.com, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Pours a dark orange-amber with a thick, fine-bubbled head. Aroma is very hoppy, almost piny, promising an exceptionally hoppy beer. Flavor delivers what the aroma promises - exceptionally hoppy, with an undertone like the scent of a pine tree. Texture is smooth and pleasant, and aftertaste has just a little hop bitterness in it. Recommended to all hop lovers. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA

They are not kidding when they say they use 3lbs of hops per barrel on this beer. As soon as I popped the cap, intense hop aromas blasted out of the bottle like a cannon shot. The nose on this beer is very vibrant and pungent with big aromas of zesty and citrus hops. Some sweet malt and peppery alcohol aromas fight for your attention, but hops dominate here. The palate is firm, with good pale and biscuit malt, which acts as a spring board to outstanding, fresh, fruity/juicy citrus hop flavor. Loose Cannon Hop3 Ale finishes with more good citrus hop flavor up front, then ends with a vibrant, tangy, mouth puckering hop bitterness that lingers on the tongue.
Loose Cannon Hop3 Ale is a fantastic AIPA. It has really great hop aroma, flavor, and bitterness. Good malt character and soothing alcohol, round this beer out to perfection. A fantastic after work drink, or aperitif, Loose Cannon Hop3 Ale is well worth looking if Clipper City beers are in your market. Retailing for $6 a six pack, this beer has been on the market since October of 2005, and it looks like this one will be sticking around. Trooper11 (467), Suffolk, Virginia, USA

Smells strongly of fresh cut grass and citrus. Kind of burns the nose hairs back, but oh well, I was needing that. A sweet smell is very inviting but this one feels heavy, damaging, dangerous, destructive, detrimental, evil, harmful, hazardous, holy terror, hurtful, ill-behaved, injurious, malicious, malignant, misbehaving, naughty, perilous, risky, roguish, sinful, spiteful, troublesome, (ok enough of that) I am worried. Wow, very smooth, this one hits the spot. Can you say hops? Beautiful, charming, congenial, delicious, delightful, enchanting, engaging, enjoyable, entertaining, favorable, gratifying, likable, luscious, palatable, pleasurable, satisfying, savory, sweet, hops. Nice bitter finish. Not filling. It lets you enjoy this amazing concoction. LooseCannon (936), Norfolk, Virginia, USA

Aroma of hops and grapefruit with a grapefruit and bitter taste. Very good IPA. crzyhoya (2), Charleston, South Carolina, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 10, 2008 This beer changes the definition of American-style IPAs, because it’s actually good. (No offense you American IPA lovers).
The hops actually blend well with the barley flavors - who would have thought!? Instead of a bitter finish, the hops spark a happy place in the palate that leave you wanting more. There is a subtle sweetness throughout and the floral character and aroma leaves the mouth watering.
Yes, the smell is "aggressive," but if you’re reading this, you can’t be faint of heart when it comes to beer. I agree with many posters that this is the closest to IPA perfection I’ve ever tasted. If you find a 6-pack of these, consider yourself lucky and take it home and enjoy! musher (5), Delaware, Ohio, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 5, 2008 12oz bottle from Buehlers market.
Pours hazy orange color.
Aroma is of a nice fruity hoppy nature. Citrus grapefruit notes right off the bat.
Taste is absolutely wonderful bordering on amazing. In my humble opinion this is the quintessential american IPA. It’s not overly sweet by any means. The hop flavor is very fruity in the best possible way. The body is perfect as it is not too thin. I couldn’t think of any way to make this better. I’m hoping they will consider an imperial someday.
