The hops actually blend well with the barley flavors - who would have thought!? Instead of a bitter finish, the hops spark a happy place in the palate that leave you wanting more. There is a subtle sweetness throughout and the floral character and aroma leaves the mouth watering.
Yes, the smell is "aggressive," but if you’re reading this, you can’t be faint of heart when it comes to beer. I agree with many posters that this is the closest to IPA perfection I’ve ever tasted. If you find a 6-pack of these, consider yourself lucky and take it home and enjoy! musher (5), Delaware, Ohio, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Sep 5, 2008 12oz bottle from Buehlers market.
Pours hazy orange color.
Aroma is of a nice fruity hoppy nature. Citrus grapefruit notes right off the bat.
Taste is absolutely wonderful bordering on amazing. In my humble opinion this is the quintessential american IPA. It’s not overly sweet by any means. The hop flavor is very fruity in the best possible way. The body is perfect as it is not too thin. I couldn’t think of any way to make this better. I’m hoping they will consider an imperial someday. mempath (12), Media, Pennsylvania, USA

Aroma is fantastic. Despite the high IBU’s this is extremely well crafted as there is no harshness sometimes associated with this style. Good Malt backbone. While 7.5% is nothing to sneeze about, it is in fact a bit lighter than many other Imperial IPAs (like Dogfishhead 90), making it a hellava "session beer". CharmCityHops (12), Maryland, USA

Big bite of hops (herbal, floral, grapefruity, piney) without overloading the senses. May have a "complexity" with some malt in the background, but was enjoying the hops too much. Excellent beer. Only for real hop lovers, though.
Had this originally at the Buffalo Brewfest in 2007. thejoeshow (232), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA

The nose on this thing is huge! Very citrusy nose with hints of peach and pine. funny...the comment about it being sweet at first and then melon and topical fruit is dead on. Great balance. The malt backbone is enough to support the huge hop bitterness. very drinkable.
