Commercial Description:
The beer is a dry Imperial Stout - creamy and rich with color as black as night. It has aromas of roasted coffee and dark chocolate, hints of molasses, toffee and caramel in the taste. Clipper City will produce only a small batch, so availability is extremely limited. IBU'S: 30 Malts: Crisp English Pale, Crisp Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted Barley Hops: Styrian Goldings, Fuggles Magnum and Amarillo

My only quarrel with this beer is it’s "imperial" title. More of a stout, but there’s nothing standard about this beer. Aroma bursts of roasted oatmeal and chocolate. Not thick like an imperial but very creamy, smooth and flavorful. Taste is milky chocolate and malty coffee. Very drinkable and not sure why it’s not rated higher.

(Rating #1962)

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of roasted malt, some chocolate, some lactic hints. Tastes sweet and tarte with some spicy elements and a hint of bitterness on the finish.

Bottled. Stout: sure. Imperial: not quite. Easy drinking stout but a little thin on the mouthfeel and there is a strange sourness near the end and an unplaceable bitterness in the finish. Aroma and flavour mostly coffee and molassas.

aroma of coffee and dark fruit. Flavor similar but too much dark fruit for me. Mouthfeel is thin. Not a good balance for my pallette compared to other great imperial stouts. Still not a bad brew but I won’t go out of my way for it.

Very creamy and smooth. easy to taste the coffee and chocolate. Not quite as thick as i’d expected. Not my favorite stout, but still really good.

Bottle. Aroma of malt, coffee, alcohol, nuts and a bit of corn. A little strange. Palate features light carbonation and a full body. Finishes long. Flavors are dominated by a velvety chocolate mixture, both milk and dark chocolates. Initial flavors also include some dark fruit – perhaps raisins or dates, and coffee. Flavors then evolve to include more alcohol and chocolate, perhaps lightening on the fruit flavor. Finish remains sweet, with a bit more alcohol showing through. Because of the sweetness, this is really a dessert beer. For its relatively low (8%) alcohol, a surprising amount of it could be detected throughout the palate.

12oz bottle at Puals 08’. Roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, and damp earth. Nice mouth feel and body. Nice Imp. stout for the price point. We both enjoyed this one.
