Commercial Description:
The beer is a dry Imperial Stout - creamy and rich with color as black as night. It has aromas of roasted coffee and dark chocolate, hints of molasses, toffee and caramel in the taste. Clipper City will produce only a small batch, so availability is extremely limited. IBU'S: 30 Malts: Crisp English Pale, Crisp Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted Barley Hops: Styrian Goldings, Fuggles Magnum and Amarillo

Notes of roasted malts, coffee and chocolate and also noticeable hops. Sweet and hoppy. Watery soft. Ick.

Bottle -Black pour with small off white tan head simmered away with some light foam lacing. Coffee and dark chocolate a little on the nose and moves forward into the pallet. Nice mix, I taste the barley hops in the middle and some dry bitterness towards the end. This and others from the Heavy Seas Brewery were a recommendation and I actually found a couple in travels through NC. Mild smooth on the pallet and a good drinker, maybe that is why I won’t rate it higher. It lacks a certain something that keeps me from putting it up to the fours. Looking forward to sampling more from them.

Bottle. Appearance out of the bottle looks more like cola than an Imperial Stout. Thin and dark with a fizzy head. Aromas are almost non-existent... dark malt, but not much else. Flavor is sweet to the point of cloying with little support from ABV or roasty malt to help things balance out. I think that this is possibly the worst Impy Stout I’ve tried to date... then again, there’s always another shot tomorrow.

As Imperial Stouts go, this is among my favorites. I used to be a Stout drinker, now an IPA’er, but when in the mood for any kind of Stout, I certainly consider one of the best I’ve sampled. I had the luxury of trying this at their Brewery as well as tasting many a bottle while visiting Baltimore. While @ the Oregon Brewers Fest, I normally sample the IPA’s and Stouts, including both Imperial and Double versions. This ImpStout will compete with any other Stout out there. If you love plain Stouts, or prefer Imperial Stouts, this is definitely worth investigating. Yum, Yum, Yum! If in Baltimore, you must visit the Brewery, not too far from the Airport. Still wishing they would ship west!

12 oz bottle thanks to Jeff for bringing this one to the Fight Night Tasting Round II. Pours with a solid black center and brown edges with an average size creamy beige head. Chalky, dusty aroma with notes of chocolate, hops and alcohol. Body is thin for an Impy Stout with slight carbonation. Flavor of 10 %dish soap, 10% bbq sauce, 10% mint and 70% chocolate all thrown into a blender. Not really an Imperial but for that matter not really that great anyway.

I received this bottle in my first trade. Thanks beachbum25 for this addiction. Good christ man, if I only had known. Poured cola colored with a thin off tan head. Strong molasses aroma. Flavor was molasses, caramel, toffee, coffee, and a bit of chocolate. Finishes sort of thin, but not in a bad way. Very drinkable.

Pours black with a thin tan head. Roasted malt and coffee aroma. Malty caramel flavor. Bit of coffee. Something I cant put my finger on is just not right.

Bonus bottle from kramer17801 on 3/25/08. With a very heavy pour a small tan head of medium bubbles forms and then quickly disappears. A little bit of roast, a little bit of BMC in the aroma. I’m not sure about this...Well, actually the flavor is not half bad. Leans a little sweet. I think I might actually finish this one for a change. Pretty nice beer.
