Commercial Description:
The beer is a dry Imperial Stout - creamy and rich with color as black as night. It has aromas of roasted coffee and dark chocolate, hints of molasses, toffee and caramel in the taste. Clipper City will produce only a small batch, so availability is extremely limited. IBU'S: 30 Malts: Crisp English Pale, Crisp Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted Barley Hops: Styrian Goldings, Fuggles Magnum and Amarillo

Pours black and viscous with a mostly receding mocha head. Aroma of winey roast, plums, grape, sweet roast. Taste is fruity: notes of plum, toffee, alefruits. Minor notes of roast and chocolate. Mouthfeel is full to heavy with light stickiness and soft carbonation. A decent Impy Stout, not exceptional. Clipper City beers all seem to have a ’house character’, and that’s not in a good thing in this case.

Kind of a weenie for an imperial stout if you ask me! Pours a porter dark reddish brown, clear with the suggestion of a thin tan film of a head. The nose is a toasty to roasty dark malt with some caramel, older coffee, and a bit of chocolate in there. Dry. Thin body for the style, but still a bit thicker than session styles. Los carbonation, but still uninspiring. The flavor is sweeter than I would have guessed. Still rather dry for the style. Light acidic roast. Toast. A bit of bittersweet chocolate. I can taste the alcohol, which at 8% tells me there’s got to be some fusels. A little nutty. Floral hops seem a bit aggressive here. This beer needs a bolder body, less booze, perhaps less hops too. It’s just not that fun to drink!

Pours a dark brown colour with small white particulates and a medium fizzy tan head. Nose of heavily roasted malts, nuts and chocolate. Initial taste of roasted malts, caramel and chocolate. Dark fruits linger. Finishing with a warm dark chocolate palate. Palate duration is slightly above average, notes of hazlenut and cocoa linger. Medium Body. Dry Finish.

Courtesy of Total Wine. Pours a massive 1.5 inch light brown head over a black/brown body. Tight curtains of tan lacing. Aroma is rich and dark like the color: chocolate malts, roasted nuts, and coffee are all prevalent. Same flavors with very subtle hops, dark fruits, and a dash of spices included. Finishes crisp and clean, however, a little thin on the palate for the style. Medium/full carbonation and body. Alcohol is well-hidden. Good beer, although nothing spectacular going on. Possibly underrated. A great style for Thanksgiving dinner.

Dark brown color with small tan head and no lacing. All around pretty average imperial stout. Ordinary aroma and flavor, wasn’t bad, but wasn’t special.

Bottle. Thanks to my sister for bringing this to me from Maryland. Extremely dark brown color with very thin brown head. Aroma brings a sweetish roasted sensation with a definite alcohol smell as well. Flavor comes across as a sweetish chocolaty taste with only a small presence of hops. Surprisingly thin mouthfeel on this one. Actually my first imperial stout. Good enough to make me want to try others.

Thin brown head of fine bubbles. Reduces slowly. Minimal carbonation. Sweet and roasty aroma with a little bit of toasted grains, dark fruit and some milk chocolate. Color is a very dark brown. Creamy and smooth flavor with a little alcohol tingle. A little roastyness along with more milk chocolate and a bit of zippy bitterness late swallow. Finihses creamy and smooth with a lingering alcohol and sweet malt aftertaste. A decent stout.

aroma of chocolate and a component of alcohol. Dark with an average tan head. Rich, robust flavor of sweet chocolate malt, slight roastiness, and faint fruits. Wet finish which is mostly sweet with a hint of roasted malt.
