Commercial Description:
The beer is a dry Imperial Stout - creamy and rich with color as black as night. It has aromas of roasted coffee and dark chocolate, hints of molasses, toffee and caramel in the taste. Clipper City will produce only a small batch, so availability is extremely limited. IBU'S: 30 Malts: Crisp English Pale, Crisp Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted Barley Hops: Styrian Goldings, Fuggles Magnum and Amarillo

Very creamy - espresso bean, bitter dark chocolate, somewhat spicy and burnt. Some pine tree essence and light, bitter toffee. Heavy drink, obvioulsly, but a little thinner than what one expects out of this style.

Dark brown, but light escapes. Aroma is roasted malt and a bit of alcohol. Flavor is bitter chocolate up front, then toffee, and ends with a somewhat sticky-sweet finish. Not as heavy as many imperial stouts.

Pours a deep dark brown almost black. Minimal aroma of malts, coffee and chocolate. No head. Hints of coffee, chocolate, malts and some molasses make up the taste. Too light to be considered creamy and light for an imperial stout.

12oz bottle, ticked as jan 07 (so drinking this only 6 months old). pours an opaque black, not much carbonation. aroma is caramel, some hint of alcohol, toast. flavor is caramel, fruity malt, roasted coffee and then a slightly sour almost-puckering dryness in the finish. definitely on the lighter side of imperial stout, something like a 1.5 stout. still, pretty good.

12oz. bottle. Lightly sweet and roasty aroma, some dark chocolate, brown sugar, candy and creamer-infused coffee, mingled with lighter touches of earthiness and ripe prune. Largely opaque brown-black color with a very slight, subsiding head, and seemingly lacking any evidence of bottle-conditioning. Flavor is roasty, grainy and bittersweet, more chocolate and milder coffee present, along with a blend of burnt sugar and background honeyish sweetness, very mildly spicy hop bitterness and a vague suggestion of lactose and dried fruits on the finish. Mouthfeel is thin, almost watery for the style and gently acidic, light on effervescence and with a medium-full body. Lingering roasty malt character late. Lighter in feel than expected, and lacking a bit in complexity and nuance for the style, but drinkable enough. Indeed like an amped up Dry Stout in most regards.

doesn’t pour like an imperial, doesn’t look like an imperial and the mouth feel certainly isn’t an imperial. other than that , it’s a pretty tasty brew. sweet malt and nutty aroma. when warmed a bit the flavor is dried figs cooked in port wine, fennel seeds, and star anise. lots of toasted malts and licorice. mild coffee finish with the alcohol popping it’s head in. flavor profile and body more like a porter... but i’m not complaining.
