Commercial Description:
The beer is a dry Imperial Stout - creamy and rich with color as black as night. It has aromas of roasted coffee and dark chocolate, hints of molasses, toffee and caramel in the taste. Clipper City will produce only a small batch, so availability is extremely limited. IBU'S: 30 Malts: Crisp English Pale, Crisp Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted Barley Hops: Styrian Goldings, Fuggles Magnum and Amarillo

Bottle. Thanks to JoeMcPhee for sending me this. Pours a dark brown body with thin head. Hoppy, grassy aroma - really couldn’t detect much else. Haven’t experienced a grassy Stout like this in awhile. Flavor is piney, citrus hops dominated, light chocolate and malt being tasted. Heavy sugar content. Rough around the edges. Decent, better than I thought it would be.

BB 8/07 12 oz - Brown/black liquid, slow rising head. Freshly roasted malt on nose. Chocolate yielding to smoky coffee on palate. Nice

Can’t tell if my nose is stuffy, but kind of a weak aroma for an IS. Somewhat roasty and warm flavor. A tad thin. Drinkable, but not imperial.

There is nothing offensive about this beer. In my technically limited opinion I don’t feel that it belongs down below 10% in Style percentile. Having said that, I feel that the 64% overall rating seems appropriate. I was most disappointed in the lack of aroma in this impy stout. I had to really seek it out as it did not offer itself freely or copiously. Typical, faint aroma....coffee, roasted malt. The taste is mild, slightly dry and sweet. I enjoyed the taste of this one, nothing severe. It’s very easy drinking with low hop bitterness in the finish, perhaps due to the relatively mild 8%abv. This one seems to fall right in line with the other beers that I have had in Clipper City’s "Heavy Seas" line of big beers in that they are fairly mild and restrained and technically simple but tasty.

bottle: pours black with a small tan head. aroma is sweet chocolate and a touch of coffee. the flavour is chocolate and roasted coffee in a very good balance. there is a touch of sweetness in the malt. the alcohol is invisiablein this stout and it is very easy drinking. quite light though for an imperial stout which is just to my liking. finishes real nice good balanced stout for me.

mild coffee aroma with hints of chocolate. Pours dark brown, reddish on the sides, a little light to me, especially for an imperial. Smooth coffee and chocolate, with vanilla highlights. Very mild, and finish quickly. Very light and a little disappointing for an imperial stout.
