Commercial Description:
The beer is a dry Imperial Stout - creamy and rich with color as black as night. It has aromas of roasted coffee and dark chocolate, hints of molasses, toffee and caramel in the taste. Clipper City will produce only a small batch, so availability is extremely limited. IBU'S: 30 Malts: Crisp English Pale, Crisp Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted Barley Hops: Styrian Goldings, Fuggles Magnum and Amarillo

This beer pours a dark chestnut brown with a rather thin light brown head. The beer doesn’t have an especially strong smell, but has hints of roasty caramel. It has a bit of a sweet coffee flavor, but is not as strong as most imperial stouts that I have tried. It also feels thinner in my mouth than many imperial stouts. Overall, it just doesn’t feel like it has as much body behind it as many beers in this category. If you’re looking for an imperial stout that wont overpower other flavors this might be a good choice.

Dark, rich color. Good stout flavor that’s abundant in chocolate and coffee tones. I was pleasantly surprised with this substantial brew.

Poured from bottle. Stout-dark with cocoa and coffee in the aroma. Flavor brings in the cocoa, nut, toffee and hops in a creamy base. Alcohol is well masked. I put it aside and let it warm a bit, which mellowed it just as it needed to be. Gave a real, nice finish. Quite a nice beer.

Opaque black body with a mid sized light brown head. Aroma has slight notes of roasted coffee, rasins and caramel. Bitter roast with a subtle tartness. Some light coffee, and plum notes. Finish is dry and toasty.

Bottle. As far as Imperial stouts go, its probably a bit below average, or perhaps, just average. This was quite sweet, with dark raisiny fruit characters. Some more caramel sweetness, with some roastyness in the finish. A little one dimensional.

On draft - Stogies and Stouts at Dunedin Brewery 02/08/07. Poured black with quarter inch creamy (not really Guinness nitro creamy) tan head. The aroma is light and a tad fruity with some roasted malts just making it to my nose. The flavor is smooth with notes of chocolate, caramel, a little black patent and some light Barleywine like fruitiness. Wow, this beer is really smooth, almost velvety. I also sense hints of alcohol that blend nicely with the rest of the flavors.

Pours a brownish black, not opaqe. Head is huge, frothy, and unattractive. Taste is overly sweet, chocolate. Didn’t think too much of this one. Just too sweet and thin complexity for me.
