Commercial Description:
The beer is a dry Imperial Stout - creamy and rich with color as black as night. It has aromas of roasted coffee and dark chocolate, hints of molasses, toffee and caramel in the taste. Clipper City will produce only a small batch, so availability is extremely limited. IBU'S: 30 Malts: Crisp English Pale, Crisp Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted Barley Hops: Styrian Goldings, Fuggles Magnum and Amarillo

Bottle. Pours near black with a medium brown head. Aroma is mostly chocolate with a slight alcohol presence. Flavor is somewhat dry and sweet compared to most beers of this style. I did notice the ABV is a little lower than most imperial stouts I’ve had. Flavors tend to dissipate and the beer is rather sweet, but this is a very good beer nonetheless.

Bottle from Siciliano’s Market, Grand Rapids, MI. BBD Jan/09. Opaque black with medium creamy, light tan head. Aroma is sweet and a little oxidized, cherry, dry chocolate. Oxidized malt, cherry, some roast, sweet, light coffee, mostly oxidation though. Medium to full with creaminess. Way too oxidized.

Bottle. Opaque black pour with a thick brown head. Aroma is nutty and roastged with hints of dark fruits. Thin prickly carbonation bubbles are the first things I notice, too thin of a mouthfeel for the style. That being said, the flavor isnt bad, dark fruits stand out with chocalate and roasted flavors shining through.

12oz bottle from Kingdom Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a murky dark brown to black with two finger tan foamy head. Aroma is sweet and roasted with notes of coffee, chocolate, anise, brown sugar, some light toffee, caramel and molasses. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of chocolate, coffee, roast, caramel, hints of honey and spice. Generally medium body with a slightly roasted, floral hop finish.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with AtlAggie. Pours black with a moderate light brown head that lasted through the first two sips and left partial lace. There is barely any aroma to speak of. There is perhaps a trace amount of chocolate, but that’s about it. The flavor is milk chocolate and malt. Very mild bitterness at the finish. An underwhelming imperial stout.
