Commercial Description:
The beer is a dry Imperial Stout - creamy and rich with color as black as night. It has aromas of roasted coffee and dark chocolate, hints of molasses, toffee and caramel in the taste. Clipper City will produce only a small batch, so availability is extremely limited. IBU'S: 30 Malts: Crisp English Pale, Crisp Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted Barley Hops: Styrian Goldings, Fuggles Magnum and Amarillo

Hard beer for me to rate because it is listed as an IS. In that category, this beer is only OK. If you name this any other stout it is very good. THe taste is very nice with some coffee, chocolate, malt, roast, and some very nice vanilla mixed in. The flavors all mix great...I mean really nice stuff. The beer is dark of course, but the body is extremley thin for an IS. I really do enjoy this beer though.

From a twelve ounce bottle purhased at "Keller’s IGA" in Cincinnati, Ohio -This one pours a black, aromatic stout with a rapidly vanishing brown head of foam and a srrong, complex scent of malt-chocolate-alcohol. Tastewise, I find it a little lacking in body for an imperial stout, but damn tasty for a dry stout (which is what it really is).

12 oz bottle

I picked this up on a stop at Liquor Mart in Louisville, I figured since I have tried most of the Heavy Seas releases, why not go for them all? So far none of them have been disappointing. In the sense that this bills itself as an imperial stout it was a bit of a letdown. As a dry stout though it would be good so I’ve split the difference between a 3.2 and 3.8 to give it a 3.5

Aroma / Appearance - It pours as black as most imperial stouts with a slightly reddish hue to it as the light trickles through. Above it sits a one-finger sandy colored head. The nose is rich chocolate fudge, anise, velvet cake and a background combination of malts and hops that is well balanced.

Flavor / Palate - A smoky taste fills the palate upon the first sip. As it fades it leaves behind cocoa, cherries, fudge and a light pleasing maltiness. For an imperial stout the mouthfeel is a little thin but not watery. The smoky dry finish leaves a slight thirst in the back of the throat. Overall it feels more like a dry stout than an imperial but by whatever name it passes it is a well made beer.

Dark brown appearance with a small head. Aroma is nutty with a trace of chocolate. Has a overly bitter hazelnut taste that has a slightly rubbery finish. Very thin for an imperial stout.

Black as night pour, light khaki head - kind of thin. Aroma is pleasant, but does not make its presence known very much - some cocoa, a bit of coffee. Flavor has some roastiness to it, blends well with the chocolate. Hints of fruitiness in the background. NIce thick mouthfeel. Overall decent. Thanks to Aurelius for this one.

Nice. Black pour with a tan head. Roasted malt aroma, sweet and flavorful taste of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Very rich. Lightly bitter hop finish. Very good.

An incredible imperial stout. I would give up a leg for this...even without the peg. The pour is a dark black with a small tan head. The aroma is all coffee/chocolate. The flavor cannot be described. Imagine if you got dipped in chocolate, drank a pot of coffee and rolled around in malt. The offspring you would produce would be this. Another fine offering by Clipper City. It lists this as an Autumn beer, but in my mind this is winter all the way.

12 oz Bottle-poured black w/a moderate tan head. Good long lasting lacing. Little bit of a pine tar aroma. Sweet, smoky flavor of roasted malt, caramel, toffee, chocolate & coffee. Good flavor, not overpowering. Reminds you of a smoked, but a mild version. Very good. Long, full, chewy, bitter finish.
