Commercial Description:
The beer is a dry Imperial Stout - creamy and rich with color as black as night. It has aromas of roasted coffee and dark chocolate, hints of molasses, toffee and caramel in the taste. Clipper City will produce only a small batch, so availability is extremely limited. IBU'S: 30 Malts: Crisp English Pale, Crisp Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted Barley Hops: Styrian Goldings, Fuggles Magnum and Amarillo

Tasted at the brewery from a cask with coffee and hops added to the firkin. Poured into a plastic cup -black with beige creamy head. Aroma is strong coffee, chocolate, roasted malt. Flavor is espresso, sweet roasted malt, dark chocolate. Very soft and creamy mouthfeel. Glad to have tried this rare casked variation of the original.

Large, brief head with some lacing on the glass. A bit watery in body, not as strong. Aroma roasted, but not strong. Clear and dark. I found it to be a mediocre beer.

Bottle. Poured obsidian with chocolate highlights and a small tan head that quickly dissipated into a thin ring. Aroma was roast barley, dark fruits with undertones of banana, caramel, nougat, coffee, and slight dark chocolate note. Flavor was roast barley, dark fruits, sweet but not overpowering maltiness, subtly nutty, coffee and chocolate, caramel, nougat, vanilla, oak, and a little citric at the end. Palate was weighty but not thick. I didn’t find it to be vicous really but it was rather smooth. Definitely an underrated beer.

[Bottle] Pours dark cola brown with a small dark tan head. Aroma is not good. Stale coffee, faint chocolate, and musty grain. Taste is stale coffee again, chocolate, alcohol, and a little bit of hoppiness towards the back end. I was starting to warm towards the taste, and then I realized that it reminded me a lot of bad cough syrup, and well, that was the end of any enjoyment there. Medium mouthfeel, smooth, and has a pretty good length finish. Overall this was just bad. I love a good impy, but this was difficult to drink.

Bottle acquired via trade with nimbleprop. THANKS ANDREW!!! Pretty solid stout, although I have a hard time considering it an "Imperial". Dark mahogany pour with a milky tan head that left a fair amount of lacing. Aroma and flavor are dark bitter chocolate and freshly roasted coffee. Didn’t really have any "off" characteristics but wasn’t as aggressive as the style implies. Medium mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

Dark malt aroma with coffee and chocolate. Dark brown color, with a thin white head. Strong flavors of coffee roast and chocolate overtones, and a bit of marshmallow, as well as some alcohol. Dry finish, a good ending.
