Pils, Carapils, and wheat malts, Belgian candi sugar

This beer is brewed in the Belgian Saison style (country farm house ale). A potent yet delicate ale, brewed with a unique Belgian yeast which develops a spicy, fruity flavor. Enormously complex. Available from May to around August.

Pours pale golden color. Aroma is very mild or "delicate" some banana, spices, and malt. Flavor was a bit floral and spicy, but overall corn syrupy.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop marked best before 8/06 poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized white colored bubbles that was long lasting and left behind a transparent typically carbonated yellow-orange colored body. The pungent aroma was malty and spicy like pepper. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The strange flavor contained notes of malt hops and spices. Not one that I would likely buy again.

On tap at RFD during RBSG 2006. Huge banana ester aroma. Some lemon flavor too. Light gold in color with a bit of pepper taste. Boiled parsnip aroma. A tad sweet perhaps. Silky in body with a orange/coriander finish.

draught: My first saison and by the ratings its not a very good one. I liked it though. Aroma was slightly banana with some spicy clove, with some hay mixed in. It poured a orangish-yellow type color. Flavors were of candided sugar, bretty malts, grass, clove in the finish, and other spicy notes. Pretty complex. Palate was slightly syruppy, but not heavy. I already said I liked it.

Pours light orange-copper into the glass, with a decently medium head and mild lace. The nose is uniquely sweet n’ sour wheat grains and spices. The flavors are predominated by spices (sweet kitchen) and malts, with a slightly clove finish. The mouthfeel is both refreshing and syrupy, but in a "thin" way. Overall, a nicely complex brew that probably deserves a little better than its current rating (3.27).

Stumbled on this at Twain’s. Appearance was just like the Hennepin I just had on tap. Nice head with a nice yellow color. Aroma was a bit dissapointing, though. Not much of the typical saison aroma one would expect; very little spice, hay, grass. Tasted more like a saison than the aroma would’ve indicated. Kind of syrupy, though. All in all an OK saison, but not one I would rush out and get.

Translucent yellow with a small white head. Smells like spicy pears, bananas and sour. Flavor is similar but more spicy, less pear/apple and more general fruityness include citrus. Some floral hops. Fairly smooth palate but tastes watery by the end.

Pours macro yellow with a big ephemeral head and lots of bubbles streaming to the surface. The nose is sour in that standard Belgian way with a definite sweetness. No malt, hops, herbs or spices are particularly apparent, but nothing necessarily bad smelling. The palate ia average with low carbonation and not much viscosity or wateriness. Striking sweetness and sourness with some floral hops, and a bit of pepper. Some subtle wheat or grainy flavors are present as well. A lingering Belgian sour bitterness. The alcohol is nearly unobservable.
