leeburg (146), Juneau, Alaska, USA Oct 29, 2008 Updated: Oct 30, 200812 oz, very slightly murky yellow-orange, and needs a little more violent pour to release a marshmallowy slowly dissipating head. Caught some apple peel, sugar, tart cherries. Sweet/tart with spice, giving way to a nicely gradual bitter iron finish. TheOrange (405), Kent, Ohio, USA Oct 26, 2008 Cloudy pale yellow pour with a small white ring of suds for a head. Despite being cloudy, you can still see the debris from the lack of filtering. The aroma is flowery, and very belgian. The flavor is true to the aroma, nice and flowery. The finish is quick and crisp. The body is lighter then the aroma leads you to expect. A pretty good beer.
Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 22, 2008 Updated: Mar 1, 2009In short: A fruity refreshing Saison with a nice farmhouse character. Unfortunately a bit sugary but still pretty nice. Underrated.
How: Bottle 12oz, from RCL, consumed fresh almost immediately upon reception. Thanks a lot Raymond!
The look: A very small white head over a partly cloudy golden blonde body with lots of tiny particles
In long: Interesting nose with cobweb and a freshly baked fruity dessert. True-to-the-style wild Saison wild yeast joined by extra ripe citrus fruits and some pineapples. Strong farmhouse character that lies somewhere between a good French farmhouse Bière De Garde and a good Belgian Saison. Starts fruity and juicy with a rather dry finish. Cobweb in the comeback. If it wasn’t for the sugary malts this would be quite a nice Saison. On this web-site dedicated to the worship of extreme beers this beer is yet another underrated refreshing rustic brew. Although when it comes to a rustic Saison I am as quickly sold as a 80% off pair of shoes in a jewish store. jlruthven (134), Milledgeville, Georgia, USA Oct 18, 2008 Heavy Seas beers usually leave me with similar impressions: each one is a good introduction to the style, but far from being a stellar example. RSAN is no different; bottle pours a cloudy gold, with surprisingly good head retention. Nose is nice and spicy. Taste is fruity, perhaps a bit of red raspberry, cloves, and light spices. Again, not one to rave about, but an excellent session selection. santos999 (318), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 7, 2008 This one doesn’t get a lot of love but I think it’s a great, easy drinking and refreshing brew. I’m actually reviewing an 18 month old bottle. Cloudy gold with a nice white head. Apple and pear spiced aroma with cinnamon, clove, honey, ginger and wheat notes. Nicely acidic apple taste with raw grains and funk. Surprising complexity with lots of light fruit and bread tastes. Really delicious, and ages like a dream. Rynoplasty (500), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Oct 2, 2008 Pours golden brown with a decent off white head. Aroma is a fruity malty smell. Taste is also slightly fruity and wine like. Good stuff. darn1207 (529), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 29, 2008 12oz bottle. gold with smallish white head. aroma of yeast, cherry and banana. sweet candy and spice taste. medium body. taste like cough medicine. way too sweet for me. crazyvin (1246), New York, USA Sep 23, 2008 A little sweet for a saison, still a nice beer. Poured a cloudy yellow hue with a thin white head. Aroma was very sweet with very mild barnyard or earthy tones. Flavor had heavy candy like notes. Dry finish.
