Pours a chilled gold colour with a foamy white head. The aroma mixes sweet, sour and a little hops as well. Definitely not the flavour I was expecting but dead-on for a European strong lager. More malty and complex than expected. Not the big alcoholic punch like some ESL’s. Good for the type but not my favourite. peter (385), Dallas, Texas, USA

Very fine honey-floral aroma plus a dash of peat. Now this is an exciting pilsner. It is complex and flavorful - simultaneously sweet, dry, well-hopped, and nutty, with hints of cherry and rye. I can’t think of another brew quite like this one - toot your horn for another fine entry in the Heavy Seas line-up. Cletus (5058), Connecticut, USA

Smells of pilsner malt, some citrus hints, pepper, a touch of spice. Tastes spicy and dry with a nice underlying bitterness. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

Flavor was a bit hoppy with citrus and pine. Malt came through with some vanilla. Not too bad. shalloWMeans (160), Independence, Kentucky, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2008 A real heavy seas experience, this imperial (or uber, as Clipper City calls it) pilsner comes on with waves of leafy, floral hops, in a sea of hazy, bright sunny gold. The aroma is vague, yet has fresh, citrussy pineapple notes, lemon drop candy, and a backbone of bready malt. The mouthfeel is wonderfully crisp and spicy, and refreshes with further notes of tropical fruits, more pineapple, paprika and lemon-pepper, and has a very appealing, drying hop finish that leaves bright lemony notes lingering on the tongue for quite some time. The hops in this beer are very well integrated in the balance, and just seem to flow smoothly without too much intensity. A nice lager indeed- refreshing yet complex, from one of America’s most underrated micros.

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2008 Clean yellow color, grassy malt and citrus aroma. Flavor is very balanced, not overpowering at any part. The malt from the aroma comes right through in the flavor as well as light hop notes of citrus and small amount of bitterness at the end. Quite a nice brew, I should have gone to this one instead of Great Lakes Imperial Dortmunder. rocbyter (923), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA
