Commercial Description:
Pale, Crystal, Carapils and Munich malts. Magnum, Fuggles, Cascade, Centennial and Chinook Hops. This ale is pure hop power but perfectly balanced with a rich malt character. Floral and aromatic, the hop character is enhanced by the technique of dry hopping, a traditional method of increasing aroma. Available from mid-October to February.

Older rating. Bottle. Pours deep amber to a brownish with a small off-white head. Oh my... the aroma is outstanding. Sweet tropical fruits blended with pine and grapefruits. Flavor is tasty... lotsa pine, lotsa grapefruit, balanced nicely with a tinge of malt. Finishes nice and bitter. Damn good. These guys know what I like in an IPA

3-11-07. Bottle. Poured nice amber with a nice soft head. Smelled of pine and citrus hops and some bready malt. Tasted of very nice dry hopped pine, slightly citric, nice bread crust, and even a little spice. Very nice beer.

Bottle. Small smooth beige head that fully diminished, splotchy lacing, carbonation observed, mostly transparent with a slight haziness, and a reddish orange hue. The nose was malty, caramel, hoppy, and ditto for the flavor with the ABV coming through. Tingly mouthfeel and medium in body. Quaffable, definite hop and ABV presence but not overly done.

Picked up a 12 oz bottle from a ’make your six pack’ cart. Not too bad but their clever little month and year ’notch-able’ strip doesn’t do much good if no one actually notches it. This beer is retired according to ratebeer so god knows how old this bottle is. I’m not sure why it rates so high. The ’dry hopping’ the brewer brags about in the description DOES give it a more pleasent aroma but, in the end, it’s the same hoppy, bitter taste you find in similar pale ales. Either you like this style or you don’t. I don’t.

(bottle - 12 oz) Clear amber color with a thin white head. Aroma is very hoppy with some sweet malts. Mostly hops. Flavor is very hoppy and resiny with a nice bitter flavor throughout. Flavor leaves a nice and lingering bitterness. One awesome beer that I wish wouldn’t have been retired.

12 oz Bottle-Picked this up just last weekend on a dollar singles clearence table @ Liquid Assets in Seaford DE.-didn’t even notice freshness/drink by date was April ’05-not’06 until I got it home (CHECK YOUR DATES THERE!) Wasn’t bad, Poured a nice amber color w/a big off white foamy head. Had some hops but not a crazy amount, maybe the age mellowed it out but it reminded me of an ESB-had a bitter, malty floral taste Long finish

Found this after some serious searching in the dc area, and it was well worth the wait. Pours burnt umber with nose of fires and flowers. Spicy and thick flavor, well-balanced, overall a fantastic example of the double IPA!
