Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Dec 7, 2008 Deep black porter with a good moka head, no lacing. Sweet chocolate vanilla aroma, light coffee motes. Light and pleasant malt, with roasted coffee, moka notes, nice little acid points, some soy sauce developing as beer warms. Light but surprising porter. Taste Spring 2006. GG (1612), NorCal, California, USA Nov 28, 2007 A fairly interesting beer from the brewers at Coast Range. While I do enjoy some of their beers, it seems their porters I can do without. Like the Stone Fence Porter in the Farmhouse series, this had an overly ashy/charcoal taste. Maybe I’m overly sensitive to this unpleasant flavor, but this beer has enough of it to make it barely drinkable. The nose and appearance are both really nice. A rich, toffee, coffee, tobacco leaf and sweet malt nose. Body is black in color with a creamy beige head. Flavor had that unappealing overly roasted malts buries the underlying coffee/chocolate aroma. Eh. ThomasE (5179), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 2, 2007 Black colour with a tan head. Roasted, coffee bitter aroma with a fruity and light chocolate sweet note. Malty, fruity and vague roasted flavor. Light dry and vague hoppy finish. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Date: 10/21/2006

kramer (2406), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 24, 2007 22 ox bottle, via trade, can’t recall with who. Opaque very dark brown body under a rather large foamy brown head that lasted forever, gaining density as it sat. Very chocolaty nose with a nice roasted accent and lots of coffee. Pretty hoppy, some dark fruits, vanilla, and light alcohol. Flavor is dry roasted and lightly burnt malts with dark bakers chocolate up front. Mid-swallow to the finish is where that great musty tobacco note emerges and gives this beer it’s depth and complexity. Some chalky yeast on the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a fairly creamy texture and moderate soft carbonation. This one really grew on me as I drank it. The tobacco flavor really developed as I got further into the bottle. A really good beer. bhensonb (4182), Woodland, California, USA Jul 9, 2007 Aromas of chocolate, coffee and dark roasted malt. Three finger tan head. Thin to medium body. Moderate carbonation. Flavors of coffee and dark malt. Floral notes. Hint of chocolate. The chocolate is hard to find, but I think it’s there. Nice toasted malt finish with a decent hop balance. Relatively dry. Good stuff. DYCSoccer17 (2187), Davis, California, USA Jun 21, 2007 22 ounce bottle purchased at BevMo in Natomas. Hoppy, grapefruity, metallic hop aroma which is rather reminiscent of centennials. Some roasted coffee aromas are also present, too. Mostly opaque dark dark brown body with a dark tan head that is average in size with nice lacing present. Carbonated, spritzy start, which becomes chocolately and very roasted and burnt. A fair amount of black patent malt is present in this. Plenty of dry, astringent, bitter, burnt flavors to finish. There is a little tobacco smokiness later, which definitely can resemble a nice cigar. A great brew for a cigar-lover who is not in the mood to smoke. joergen (8430), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jun 19, 2007 Bottle.
