Very dark ruby color, small mocha head. Roasted, cold coffee nose. Medium-bodied, balanced malt profile. Some brandy notes in the otherwise typical porter taste: coffee, roasted malts. Nicely balanced. omhper (12218), Stockholm, Sweden

Medium bodied, well hopped and really roasty. Strong citric hops interplay with the coffeeish malt flavours and it works just fine. A great porter! BigBastard (668), L.A., California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 19, 2005 Really nice roasty, toasty coffee aroma. Flavor was bitter, day old coffee-ish, sounds bad but I was pleasantly surprised with this one. Vanilla and toffee comes out as it warms. argo0 (6897), Washington DC, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 8, 2005 22oz bottle via trade with jazz88 - Thanks Eric!! - Pours very dark brown almost black with ruby highlights with a nice creamy tan head that lingers and laces quite well. Aroma of roasted malts, a touch of chocolate, some caramel. Flavor is nice and roasted. Some chocolate and coffee poke through the nice smoky roasted malts that dominate the flavor of this one. Palate is thin but enough body to still be respectable. Somewhat carbonated but very smooth and drinkable. A very nice porter. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Aug 28, 2005 Updated: Dec 24, 2005If a porter is between 80-89 overall I can always tell I am gonna love it. If it is 79 or lower it will probably be hit or miss. 90 or higher and 8/10 times it is more like a stout than a porter and thus everyone loves it though not always me. This is a real porter and it is freaking awesome. The aroma is mild, but roasty with hints of chocolate and malt. Deep brown to black with a fast fading head. Beautiful roasted barley flavors. Coffee and Chocolate, but they are both behind and a cohesive part of the roasted flavor. This is what I think of when I think of porter..it is the idealized porter flavor. It’s thin. But, I am giving it a 5 for palate. Because it IS NOT thin for a porter. It is perfect palate wise for a porter. I often see porters called thin and it throws me off since they should be thinner than stouts, but heavier than pale ale, bitters, esb and the like. Anyway. This is spot on. This is porter. A fantastic porter. jah noth (1015), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 5, 2005 Winey aroma with some burnt butterscotch. Deep crimson pour, kind of thin, with an unfortunate head. Medium to light bodied but not unappealing. This beer takes off from there. A potpouri of flavors - cocoa and bitter chocolate, caramel, burnt malts , lots of hops, and an ashen residual flavor. A nice porter. Thanks to Dark Elf for the brew! dhlesq (233), Thousand Oaks, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 30, 2005 Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, mesquite, earth, roasty malt. Pours a deep claret brown, with a thin creamy head that dissipates. Flavor is suprisingly hoppy bitter at the start, giving way to intense roastiness, mild cocoa flavor, and bittersweet chocolate. Palate is on the lighter side, but porter-appropriate, with a mild bubbliness, and a slick sensation that likely comes from a London-style yeast. Overall, this beer is slightly greater than the sum of its parts.
