Jul 20, 2009 Just too malty/thick for me. I know its a scotch ale, but the lack of balance really hurts drinkability. Complexity is limited, with some toffee undertones.

Jul 11, 2009 Appearance: Pours out a hazed, deep, reddish-brown body with a frothy, off-white head.
Smell: Sweet-scented, malt-forward aroma of oven-toasted breads slathered in caramel thanks to the generous, appreciated portions of Melanoidin and Munich malts present. Light, understated traces of clean smoke and staple grains.
Taste: Deeply toasty, bready malts alongside a full, heavily caramelized sugar sweetness. Minor hints of smoke and grains. Splash of lukewarm English Breakfast tea. Lightly earthy hop character with a subtle touch of imparted bitterness leaving the beer scale tipped towards the malts. Finishes up sweet and rather malty.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A well-crafted, tasty, nicely executed Scotch ale from COAST that seems richer and bolder than a beer of only 6.6% ABV. Go on, give it a try.

Apr 8, 2008 The aroma was malty with a strong caramel component and a bit of candy-like sweetness. A bit of an earthy character was notable with some spicy notes. Graham crackers and breadiness with an underlying fruity nature. The beer arrived amber-brown with a low tannish head which lasted at a low level to lace the glass. The flavor was slightly sweet with a candy flavor, caramel with a lightly earthy spice. The flavor was floral, fruity and had a bit of cinnamon with some dark fruits thrown in for good measure. The body was medium with a moderate level of carbonation. The finish went just dry with lasting caramel and spice into the aftertaste. A nice beer, but just a skinch too sweet. Pint at EVO.

Mar 15, 2008 Updated: Apr 22, 2008On tap at Gene’s. Pours a copper red with a nice frothy foam head that stays on top of the beer. Color is a good fit for the name of the beer and the head does run long legs down the glass, although not as much as the imperial stout. Tastes on the sweeter side of Scotch ales, there is no roasting or smokey flavor, just caramel malt and other untampered malts.
