BMan1113VR (2756), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Aug 3, 2009 Bottle. Small tan head that is quick to fade over a near black body. Aroma of coffee, leather, light wooden and must notes. Taste is dry, cocoa, smoke, coffee grounds and leather. A little bit sourish. Dry mouthfeel. Better than their Vienna. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Jul 13, 2009 Bottled. Dryish, vegetal, funk, farmhouse and white sugar aroma. Light espresso notes. Light carbonation, medium body, with a nice roast bitterness in the finish. Pretty good. TimE (1300), Tokyo, Japan May 23, 2009 Light bodied, sweet mochachino nose. Mouth is a bit too sweet for my liking, but still a decent beer, especially for coffee lovers. omhper (12155), Stockholm, Sweden May 23, 2009 Bottled at RBJG park session. Almost black, fairly rich head. Licorice aroma with lots of coffee underneath. Medium bodied with rounded mouthfeel. Caramel lures underneath all the coffee. Medium bitterness. jonno (542), Brisbane, Australia Nov 28, 2008 My first schwarzibier! A smooth dark beer. Pretty much exactly what I expected...which surprised me. Minimal aroma. Smooth, slightly watery body and a nice long finish. More than passable buzzoven (333), Japan Oct 17, 2008 I had tried a few Coedo bottles in the past and can’t recall being overly thrilled with them; but their Shikkoku ranks up there pretty high with me. Pours a dark black colour with a well-sized and lasting head. Milk, chocolate, some fig and raisin on the nose...smooth creamy taste with a rounded mouthfeel. Slightly nutty and fizzy on the tongue. Finish is slightly dry with a subtle roasted feeling creeping in. Very nice. KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Sep 10, 2008 Black with a medium off-white head.
Aroma: Roasted, smoky, creamy relatively rich and dry. Flavor: rich black malt but not burnt. Not excessively bitter. Creamy and smooth. Slightly smoky. A touch of sweetness in the mouth. A touch of tangy sourness. Dry, roasted finish. Still a bit creamy. Lasts quite a while. A decent Schwarz.
rallison (113), USA Jul 14, 2008 2007 Bottle (but still surprisingly decent).
Roasty with hints of licorice and caramel. Lightly smoky.
Thick for a schwarzbier - getting closer to stout range here, but quite nice.
