ciderguy (97), Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 1, 2003 This cider had as strong a nose as any I've tried before. It was a very dark, heavy aroma, that reminded me of grandma's musty basement. I really couldn't put a finger on exactly what it smelled of, but regardless, it was certainly not apples nor any derrivative there of. Poured a little darker than their Pomme du Jour variety with fewer bubbles. Still too many bubbles to consider it kin to a still cider. After tasting it, I thought I could place a finger on the smell. It was actually a smokey flavor. Not what you expect from a cider. The tast did help to locate the sweet nature of it, but was far too overpowered by the dry aftertaste and its accents of smoke and peat. Thought for a second I was drinking a very light, sweet, single malt. Yeah I know that impossible, but what else has a taste of smoke and peat? I think I would have to recommend skipping this one.
KnN (321), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Sep 15, 2008 One of the most effervescent ciders I’ve ever head. Pours a gorgeous golden color with bubbles absolutely everywhere. This is just fun to watch in the glass. Aroma is apple skins and must with some wood and sourness thrown in. First aromatic impression was that this was a little sulfur-y, but the more I smell it, the more it just smells like an apple storage bin. I’m impressed they got this without the addition of yeast.
Flavor is more musty apples with some nice tartness and a huge amount of fizz on the tongue. Fun to drink. Not to sweet, not to tart, very nice balanced cider. JB175 (1366), Holland, Pennsylvania, USA May 20, 2008 Nice looking golden-apple color with a major amount of fizz - I’m now inspecting my ceiling for damage, as I opened this guy at 55F. Aroma of raw apples with some funk and wood. Funky-raw apples with some wood and sourness. Tasty and crisp - overall a good cider that is a bit sweet and quite refreshing. BlackDonald (1039), North Carolina, USA May 13, 2008 Vinous apple cider vinegar nose, slightly wood palate, with some ripe bitter apple skin notes, tastes old and musty, and extremely tart. Very unenjoyable. heemer77 (3789), Savannah, Missouri, USA Apr 7, 2008 This corked and caged 750 opened with a lot of force. It was nicely chilled, but still foamed out of the bottle. Bright yellow body that is barely gold with a slightly yellowish head. The aroma is lightly vinous with the dry apples. There is also some light musky perfume. The taste has some dry apple core and some bread crust. There is also a note of glue. The finish is relatively sweet and has a flavor like cheap artificial candy. Promising at the start, this is nothing special. A big disappointment. hotstuff (3045), Indiana, USA Mar 12, 2008 Corked & caged bottle. Medium sized very fizzy white head that quickly dissipated, no lacing, transparent, carbonation was fizzy, fast rising, and lively, and a yellow hue. Nose was sweet, apples, sour and tart. Flavor was sweet, sourt, tart, apples, fizzy, and a dry finish. Mouthfeel was tingly, bubbly and dry. Light in body. True to style, balanced and worthy of a try although there are better of this style IMO.
