A purple umber color with a taller, tiny bubbled, tan head. Decent lace. LIght floral hops and dark caramel scents. Hints of wood and and touch of roasted malt and nuts in the nose as well. Light flavors with roasted nuts and toasted malt. Seems thin in feel. I can sense the bock and I’m searching for the porter. Missing both and making me want either.

12 oz bottle from Hi-Time. Dark mahogany/garnet color with a light beige/tan head. Really interesting aroma; dark roasted malt, chocolate, and something floral or herbal. Medium body with mild, light, creamy carbonation. Flavor is rather mild roasted dark malt with a little coffee, perhaps chocolate behind it. Finish is a little sweet, but there’s a little sour note to help offset that. Mixed porter and bock. Certainly goes down well.

Deep brown body with copper red edges when held to light. The thin head was yellowish khaki. The malty nose was milk chocolate with some baby poop. I am not happy at all with the near rotting grain nose on this one. The taste has some strong notes of cola along with a little bit of milk chocolate in the finish. Overall, a drinkable, sweet brown ale, but not something to try again.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, MN. Pours a dark brownish copper brew with an average light beige head that has some nice retention and spotty lacing. Aroma of roasted dark malt, milk chocolate, a touch of brown sugar and flowery hops. Taste is medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of roasted dark malt with a mild biscuit character, a touch of chocolate and a little white pepper. Finish is semi-sweet, a mild roasted dark malt aftertaste with a touch of flowery hops. Hard to classify what kind of beer this is but still a solid beer.

Sampled on 12/16/2008. This brown ale pours a medium amber brown color from a 12oz bottle. Medium to small sized white foamy head, little to no retention. The aroma is nutty and sweet with a bit of honey. A medium to light bodied combination of a porter and a bock. The malts are caramel and nutty, not all that fruity or sweet. The hops are earthy and floral. It’s a weird combination and it really doesn’t blend very well. The malts are not roasty enough or sweet enough to balance each other. A touch thin and a little cardboardy. Drinkable. Mouthfeel is thin. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Dark brown color with a thin head. Sweet malt aroma. Some cardboard. Flavor is nothing but wet and moldy cardboard. Blah.

Some sweet caramel and a dash of hops. Low carbonation and brown color. Some nut flavor, and unprocessed grain. It is hard to make a brown ale into a good beer. This is not bad at all.
