Commercial Description:
Originating with small craft brewers, brown ales became popular in England. They created this amber colored ale for its nutty toffee and caramel notes and a soft, smooth finish. This new brew of choice became known as Brown Ale. These ales were traditionally served draught style in neighborhood pubs with a generous froth spilling over the top of the pint glass. You'll discover that authentic Pub Pint taste and character thanks to our Colonial Pub Pint System. Millions of tiny bubbles release when you jopen a pint to give your beer a creamy head and smooth pub finish ... the way Pub Pints havae been enjoyed for generations. It’s been a while since I’ve been Glueked, and this one surprized me by being fairly drinkable. From thew can it pours a clear orangeish brown with a creamy, tall beige head... which unfortunately reduces to a film within two minutes. It’s got a sweet aroma, worty malt smells with caramel and a bit of chocolate. But it has no balance in the flavor, the sweetness getting to be a bit too much for me by the end of the glass. But for a Gluek, that ain’t bad.

Dark copper to umber color with a small head that settles quickly to a thin lid of light tan bubbles. Somewhat lactic caramel aromas. Some lightly toasted grain and lightly rancid nut scents as well. Flavors of brown sugar and caramel. Some whole grain bread flavors as well. Flavors are better than the aromas, but that did not take much.

A competitive web site assigned Colonial Brewery label to Gluek. The can says Colonial Brewery Co., Cold Spring, MN, so it likely is Gluek. There seems to be no widget to release those bubbles, but although my can of pale ale failed, this can actually released millions of bubbles - no widget required. Deep amber color - could be heading towards brown. The head and bubbles at first suggested the English draught-flow system (uses widget), and the light tan head does persist. The aroma has some of the malty complexity expected with a brown ale. The flavor starts a bit sour, followed by malty sweetness, and there is even a slight hint of smoked malt at the end. I think there is a metallic taste ever present, but there is enough character to make this drinkable. The carbonation (and nitrogen?) made the bubbles, so the result is a bit flat and smooth. The "mouthfeel" is a bit more English than most American ales. Doubt I’d ever buy it again though, though I’ll probably drink the other 3 cans. More than I’m likely to do with the pale ale.

Can purchased at the New Pioneer Co-Op in Coralville, IA. Dark orange amber body with a light kahki coloredv head. Smells of caramel and hot cream of wheat cereal. The taste has some light toffee and iced black tea. There is just a little bit of pear core in the finish. This is drinkable but certainly not pleasurable.

Picked up a 16-oz can from the Party Supply in Maplewood, MN. Pours a hazy burnt caramel amber brew with a thick bubbly ivory head. Nice dissolving and retention. Aroma has some toffee, corn malt, a hint of brown sugar and ripe beets. Taste is a bit acidic, metalic on the mouth roof, some sweet ripe citrus and sweet bitter. Finish is a little acidic. The flavor is light in character and the palate is somewhat odd.

16oz can. Poured clear reddish-orange with a short cap of off-white/beige head. The aroma picked up sour fruit skins with caramel and nutty notes way in the background.. not good. The flavor was also marred by persistent fruit skin sourness and acidity.. caramel and some dark fruity sweetness come through on the back-end, and is almost decent for a split second.. this finishes very metallic, sour, and tacky. Light-bodied with higher carbonation.. sour, ugly, and lingering feel at the end. The worst part may be that being "light-struck" is ruled out b/c of the can, and I think this is a fresh batch.

Can poured a clear brown with a small lasting light tan head. Aromas of carmel. chocolate, light fruitiness and a hint of nuts. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of carmel and light fruitiness with a crisp clean finish. A verey disapointing beer!

Brown, so at least they got that part right. Hightly carbonated and some sweetmess; however, unpleasant chemical flavors as well. Their hefeweizen was almost ok, but this is pretty bad.
