Commercial Description:
Originating with small craft brewers, brown ales became popular in England. They created this amber colored ale for its nutty toffee and caramel notes and a soft, smooth finish. This new brew of choice became known as Brown Ale. These ales were traditionally served draught style in neighborhood pubs with a generous froth spilling over the top of the pint glass. You'll discover that authentic Pub Pint taste and character thanks to our Colonial Pub Pint System. Millions of tiny bubbles release when you jopen a pint to give your beer a creamy head and smooth pub finish ... the way Pub Pints havae been enjoyed for generations. Medium head with a huge smell of chocolate and sweet malt. Nice full body and it delivers on the sweet malt and chocolate preview. There is a bit of metallic taste? I could accidently drink too many of these.

160z can: The whole "Pub Pints" angle seems a bit gimmicky. I cut the can open after pouring to look for some sort of "widget", but the can is empty. The beer does poor with an initially thick and healthy beige head, but it settles rather quickly as you begin to drink. The nose is sharp, almost tart, with alot of CO2 it seems. Eventually it settles and mild hints of caramel and esthery plum come forth. The body has a nice, creamy mouthfeel and is medium bodied. Notes of sweet caramel, honey and nuts are abound. Easy to drink and finishes just sweet enough to leave me wanting more. I kind of like this for a session brew, although the "extreme carbing" ruins the nose. Oh well, still a good drinker.

I’m not a big brown ale fan, but I’m surprised to see this beer rated as it is here as I thought it was surprisingly good. Perhaps my expectation was just too low based on the fact that this beer comes in a can, was cheap, and because I’d never heard of it before. Still, I found it be an enjoyable but no-frills brown ale. And I’m not a huge brown ale fan. The beer pours a hazy brown with less than expected head formation. Aroma was somewhat toffee-ish, and flavor was sweetly malty but not over-the-top for my somewhat limited malty sweetness tolerance, which I appreciated. Mouthfeel was a bit watery, but not bad. All-in-all, I rather enjoyed it. I bought this beer after seeing it on the "just in" shelf at Three Cellars liquor in Franklin, WI.

It’s been a while since I’ve been Glueked, and this one surprized me by being fairly drinkable. From thew can it pours a clear orangeish brown with a creamy, tall beige head... which unfortunately reduces to a film within two minutes. It’s got a sweet aroma, worty malt smells with caramel and a bit of chocolate. But it has no balance in the flavor, the sweetness getting to be a bit too much for me by the end of the glass. But for a Gluek, that ain’t bad.

I didn’t think was all that bad. It has a generally satisfying smoothness, and the flavor has enough malt to produce a nutty quality that isn’t sophisticated but is a whole helluva lot better than a plain-jane American lager. BUT, I did have a really strong sour edge to the flavor and it didn’t really diminish with time, a very lactic sour underbelly on those malts. Curious. Still, it could be a lot worse in the world of bargain quasi-micros.

Brown Color with White Ring. Sweet Caramel Malt Aroma. Sweet Toasted Caramel Malt Flavor. Little Too Sweet on the Aftertaste, but a Nice Simple ’Pub’ Ale That Goes Down Without any Offensive Thoughts.
