Commercial Description:
Cask & Bottles, Regular;
A traditional Scottish Ale brewed for export. In the old days ales were taxed in shillings per barrel depending on the strength – so this malty and flavoursome ale is at the higher end of traditional beer strengths. Some claim to find a hint of smoke in 80/- ales – our slightly peaty water may well bring that out more – discover for yourself.

Bottled at RBESG 2007. An amber beer with specks of sediment floating around under a thin beige head. The aroma is acidic with notes of caramel and straw. The flavor is acidic and dominated by caramel. The body is thin.

 Bottle, many thanbks to Craig for this one cheers mate!, had this 02-02-08 Poured amber some haze, very little head. Aroma a bit malty and also some smokiness. Tasted really quite smoky with good bitterness and then a flurry of sweet malts drop in at the end. The smokiness is always there on the first sip and I was quite pleased to see that I’d noted that before even reading the description on the back of the bottle. This isn’t bad but a 568ml bottle is a bit too much as a half would have sufficed for me tonight. Just looking back at some of the rates, I reckon I’ve got a good bottle of this :-)

rbesg07, bottled. dull shade of copper, minimal head, aroma of peanut skin and hospital, pretty scary - some disinfectant, raw sugar and a hint of citric tartness. pretty abysmal
