In fact, a specimen jar full of Colt 45 would not raise any eyebrows in a medical laboratory. In a highly chilled state, there is little aroma and what aroma there is similar to a typical imported lager (crisp, malty, bready, slightly skunky and metallic). Similarly, the taste of a highly chilled Colt 45 is bland, slightly sour and bitter, not unlike a typical imported lager. Once the Colt 45 warmed up, the many layers of flavor slowly blossomed: the most obvious is that classic corn adjunct “malt liquor” taste, the taste and aroma of ethanol evaporating off your tongue and into your sinuses, and the sweet smell of decomposing vegetable gases. While not as strong as some modern fortys like SR211 or OE800HG, Colt 45 nevertheless satisfies with its familiar smooth taste. That’s why I call Colt 45 the “comfort food” of malt liquors. I was really tempted to pass it up to try something new (icehouse) but decided to revisit this classic as i had only drank it a handful of times. I remember the TV comercials for Colt 45 back in the day... some low toned brutha-man guy talkin bout how smooth it is while some dude danced with his ho in a red dress. (cannot confirm this) Damn half way through and i’m buzzin’ already. Okay so back to the review... This stuff is very sweet and for whatever reason reminds me of a bananna beer i once drank at a micro-brew haus. A kind of sweetness along the lines of Mickey’s. However unlike Mickey’s the body is more foamy than it is sparkley and i truely hope it sits well with the lingering jalepeno poppers. (blinks) Jfishback13 (271), Royal Oak, Michigan, USA
