Commercial Description:
"Trippel" stems from the use of three times as much malt as in a standard Trappist ale. Eric brewed this a shade or two darker than a pilsner. Complex, with spicy fruit and a sweet finish. The alcohol is well hidden. NOTE: ABV is listed as 7.5-9.0%

Draft at MRAF 2009. Poured cloudy yellow-amber color with an average frothy white head that lasted with good lacing. Complex spicy citrus and yeasty aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation and thin particles. Medium spicy fruit flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration with a small alcohol bite as it warmed. This is a refreshing good beer.

Firkin version at Barley’s 7th Annual Mini RAF (05/02/09): This beer pours a hazy yellow-orange color with a thin and bubbly off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of peppery hops and yeast. Medium body with flavors of hops, peppery yeast and fruits/spices. The finish is on the hoppy side with a yeast aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Sampled at Barley’s 7th Annual Mini Real Ale Fest. Cloudy orange color with a medium white head. Hoppy aroma that is welcome, but way unexpected from this style. Hoppy flavor giving way to peppery yeast and a sweet malt finish. Definitely unconventional for the style, and my kind of tripel.
