Pours a cheerwine (not sure if everyone is familiar with that soft drink, might be regional) red with a thin pink head. Malty smell with a tinge of hops and wheat. Strong taste of hops and alcohol with some minor fruity notes. The 6.66% ABV is a good touch. A decent beer, but really more clever than good. maniac (2628), Richmond, Virginia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 16, 2009 Bottle from Once Upon a Vine South on 09/19/2008. Pours a slightly hazy red body with a rather large frothy pink head. Sweet grainy and toasty aroma. Sweet slightly grainy and toasty flavor with some citrusy hops. Medium body with moderate carbonation. This is more of an American Pale Ale with red food coloring instead of an Oktoberfest. Really not that bad, but the color tends to surprise you.

Aroma of malt and hops. Taste of hops with a bitterness along with a little malt. This medium bodied brew is well balanced and is a great blood red beer. scraff (1955), Baltimore, Maryland, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 2, 2009 Tasting - Perfect Pour. Cherry red, pinkish white fizzy head. Aroma was citrusy with a light cherry earth undertone (from the cherry skins for those who did not know). Hoppy citric flavors fade into a weird autumn-like cherry taste. Hard to really explain at this point. Light bodied, soft carbonation, bittersweet finish. I think the Freaktoberfest name is appropriate here. Might want to go back to the drawing board on this one... GodOfThunder (878), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 2, 2009 Just from the name, you know this is going to be a wierd one. It pours a crystal clear redish/orange color. I would suppose food coloring was used to get this color. I actually like it. The bottle labeling lets you know to expect something freaky, and it delivers with the color. Not much head on it and it is gone quickly. The smell is of a little hops, a little malt and just a little bit of skunk. The taste has a lot of malt in there and a nice kick of bitterness at the end. Just a little of the skunk in there.
Not bad. I will try it again and I praise the Shmaltz guys for trying something new with the color.
