Reddish brown color with a quarter inch thick, filmy head and a few light bands of lacing around the glass. Decent aroma of raisin, brown sugar and toffee. Malty body with a fairly hot finish. Malt driven flavor with hints of wheat bread, fig newtons and raisin. A faint bitterness is there, but doesn’t do much.

bottle - Pours clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma is mostly caramel malt and some alcohol with a touch of dark fruit. This strong flavored brew has sweet caramel malt, some woody notes, alcohol, and a hint of fruit in the background all balanced out by some hops bitterness that lingers moderately strong in the finish. Calling it a doppelbock might be as close as one can get to the style, but don’t expect a typical doppelbock. It’s definitely not to style. There’s too much hops and too much that makes me think barley wine. The Coney Island label seems to be dedicated to creative, experimental lagers, which hardly anyone is doing, so good for them. It works.

Sampled 4/1/2009. This dunkel pours a dark amber brown color from a 22oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is roasty malts and dark fruits, a touch sweet. A medium bodied Dunkel. The malts are caramel, bready and semi-sweet. The hops are earthy. Nice balance. Good carbonation. The malt flavors mellow as it warms. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Bottle. Pours a rusty amber with an off-white head. Aroma is malty with a lesser note of hops. Flavor starts with sweet malts and ends with a bit of hops. There is a touch of alcohol but the beer actually does a quite good job with the 10% ABV.

Pours a copper colour with a small white head that retains nicely. Aroma is of toffee, apples, pine, grass, raisins and alcohol. Tastes thick and sweet. Toffee, raisins, apples, raisins, figs, licorice, and a hint of bitter chocolate. Palate is lively and mouth filling. Nice beer, it packs a punch and is east to drink.

I grew up with the Human Blockhead on the label, his trade name is Donny Vomit and he performs at Coney Island, go see him! Copper pour, medium head, lots of lace. Fruity sweet aroma. Very alcoholic, thick and sweet. A bit fruity and some thick phlegmy caramel. A little flat, but this rode back on a plane. Massive hops and alcohol for a lager, tasty and unique but a little much.

Bomber. Pour is deep amber/ruby with a thin ring off white head. Aromas of piney hops, sweet fruits, candy, and caramel. Flavor is full of malt, bitter hops, and caramel. Warming alcohol in the finish. Decent.
