The aroma has notes of pale grains and slight toffee, herbal hops, some pear and grapefruit ester, and a hint of DMS. The taste is rather straight forward with mild bitters balanced by mild pale malts and a dash of sweetness. Nice hop spice character about the edges and finish which does add a level of depth to the palate and better than most of the genre. The mouth feel is also better than most, medium-bodied and carbonated. You cold do a lot worse than this beer, all in all it worked for a high end lager. hapjydeuce (771), Del Mar, California, USA

Golden yellow color, heavily carbonated with a white head. Grainy lager aroma with some hops spice and a touch of light fruits. Quite sessionable. CaptainCougar (5416), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 28, 2008 Pours a transparent deep golden bronze with a thin, spotty-lacing white head. Aroma of lightly sweet pale malts and a nice, fresh assertive Saaz hop character. Starts with a nice light sweetness and good noble bittering and flavor hop balance before a crisp, smooth finish. A nicely-flavored, quite drinkable high-gravity lager. Butters (1646), Virginia, USA

Flavor reminds me of a pale ale. A little slick on the tongue. Semi bitter hop finish. I love these coney island labels. carl4beer (400), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 26, 2008 22oz bottle served in a shaker pint. Poured a slightly hazy, pale gold. Plenty of carbonation with a finger of fine bubbled white head. Nice noble hop aroma with malt. A hint of cardboard. Really solid malt base, almost bock like. Good dose of hop bitterness that is drying in the finish. Clean and flavorful. Another solid beer from Shmaltz. wetherel (1591), Encinitas, California, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 26, 2008 This strong lager pours a light gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is floral hops, biscuty malts and some alcohol. A medium bodied Strong Lager. The malts are biscuty and caramel. The hops are floral, piney and grapefruity. It’s kind of sweet, and sort of reminds me of a malt liquor. It doesn’t have any of the weird adjunct flavors, but it has that high gravity alcohol feel to it. Think of it as a hoppy malt liquor. Fairly lively carbonation. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a fairly prominent alcohol aftertaste.
