Pleasant floral hop aroma. Dry, metallic hop flavor. Very dry; and a bit too astringent for me. lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jun 27, 2007 pours a clear dark pilsner gold with a one finger bubbly white head. aroma is malt, a touch of hops, and grain-smells like a pilsner. has a light body with some lacing and good carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma. has a watery feel on the palate with a touch of dry hop aftertaste. has a bit of sediment, but overall i am not impressed. has a touch of the apple cider aroma and flavor. has a little bitter bite at the end, but i was expecting more and had better bitter beers. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jun 9, 2007 First bitter I’ve had that wasn’t Boddingtons. Much different than an ESB and a lot better in my opinion. I never knew why ESBs were called bitter because most aren’t. This is. Aroma of hops. Pour was a deep gold with no head. Taste was very bitter...more bitter than an IPA but no malt backbone. Just bitterness. This is better with each sip. The bitterness burns the back of your throat in a good way. Must try more bitters.... Grandpa (325), Verona, New York, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 5, 2007 It poured a clear gold with a tight, white head. The malt was light followed by the hops which came in late to give a bitter finish. Good, but just a little unbalanced. TURDFERGUSON (1608), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 3, 2007 Pour is bright golden with a medium-sized white head that is retained. Nose is earthy, spicy hops with a balanced malt presence. Flavor is difficult to put into words. A little peppery hops, caramel (but not sweet) malts, bitterness. Tastes better when I burp then when I sip it. Full palate for such a lower alcohol beer. I don’t have much experience with this style, so I don’t really know what I should be looking for. This is an easy drinking beer and it is bitter so I guess it fits its name. Don’t think I’d buy this again with the $5 pricetag. bu11zeye (5675), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 25, 2007 Very nice bitter. Comfortable to drink, nicely balanced. Hazy yellow/golden poour with long-lasting off-white head. Aroma is quiet like the flavor — some malty sweet toffee, lightly toasted bread and a little sweet cookie in addition to hints of grapefruit. The flavor is moderately sweet and nice balanced with a moderate bitterness. There is a slight tartness that seems out of place. Lively carbonation and nice mouthfeel. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 25, 2007 50cl brown bottle from Lou’s in Augusta. Translucent slightly darker amber body with a quarter inch of off-white head that dissipates quickly. Bitter hops dominate the aroma with a good bit of caramel malt. Hop bitterness, burnt tobacco-like quality toward the finish, with caramel malt to support. Slightly harsher than what I was expecting, but fairly well-balanced and more complex than some bitters. Also, very drinkable, due to the tastiness and the lighter body. Turns out to be a great solid ale, and if it weren’t so pricey, it definitely would become a frequent favorite.
